 4. Procedure
_________
 Subtask 49-73-31-820-050
 A. Prepare the Identification Module
 (Ref. Fig. 402/TASK 49-73-31-991-002)

NOTE : Before installation of the replacement identification module, the
____
new module must be coded with the APU serial number.

 (1)
Locate the APU serial number on the APU identification plate. This is the number that must be coded into the identification module printed wiring assembly (PWA).

 (2)
Use the four digits of the APU serial number and substract 1000 from it. The result is the value necessary to encode the APU serial number into Identification Module.

 (3)
On the new module, use a sharp knife, cut round the mating surfaces and remove the protective end cover.

 (4)
 Remove the insulation pad.

NOTE : On the PWA each copper-clad circuit link is identified with a
____ "W" number. There are eleven links marked "W1" to "W11". Each of the eleven links has a numerical value.
 (5)
 The numerical values of the links are as follows: W1 = 1, W2 = 2, W3 = 4, W4 = 8, W5 = 16, W6 = 32, W7 = 64, W8 = 128, W9 = 256, W10 = 512, W11 = 1024.

 (6)
In order to encode the identification module the "W" links must be cut.

 (7)
Before cutting the links, calculate which of the links need to be cut. Calculation Example: If the APU serial number is 1182, the links must be cut as follows: W8 = 128 W6 = 32 W5 = 16 W3 = 4 W2 = 2 When the above values are added, the total is 182. The APU ECB software automatically adds one thousand (1000) to the calculation determined by the links that are cut. The final serial number displayed will be 1182.

NOTE : The calculation must carefully checked before the links are
____
 cut.

 (8)
Cut the copper-clad links as determined by the calculation. Make sure that you remove the full copper-clad link between the connecting round-pads.

 (9)
Remove any debris produced during the cutting procedure.

 (10)
Apply Acrylic Conformal Coating to the areas of the PWA that have been cut.

 (11)
 Install the insulation pad.

 (12)
Bond the protective cover to the end face of the identification module using Quick Drying Permanent Adhesive.

 B. Install the Identification Module
 (Ref. Fig. 401/TASK 49-73-31-991-001)

 (1)
Align the mount plate (3) with screw holes in the main mount bracket.

 (2)
Install the module (1) with the screws (2) to the mount plate (3).

 (3)
 TORQUE the screws (2) to 40 lbf.in (0.45 m.daN).

 (4)
Remove the blanking cap from the electrical connector (4).

 (5)
Make sure that the electrical connectors are clean and in the correct condition.

 (6)
Install the electrical connector (4) to the module (1). Subtask 49-73-31-865-052

 C.
 Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s): 1KD, 2KD

 Subtask 49-73-31-710-050
 D. Do the the self-test of the ECB (Ref. TASK 49-00-00-710-005).
