NOTE : The APU oil heater 2KT has no direct connection to the ECB 59KD.
____
4.
Power Supply
____________ (Ref. Fig. 002) The oil heater gets the electrical power from the AC system of the aircraft. It supplies 115 V AC to the SERVICE BUS 214XP through the circuit breaker 1KT, a bus and the relay 32KD to the APU oil heater 2KT.
5.
Interface
_________ The APU oil heater 2KT has no interface with the engine controls, nevertheless the APU oil heater 2KT will be indirectly monitored from the generator-oil temperature sensor and the oil-sump temperature sensor.

Component Description
_____________________ The APU oil heater has an oil temperature switch and an heater coil. The oil temperature switch is a 'thermal temperature-delay switch' which meassures the ambient temperature of the oil in the reservior. The heater coil is made of a nickel iron alloy and uses 115 V AC power to increase the oil temperature during cold soak condition.
7.
Operation Control and Indicating
________________________________ The oil heater is energized when the oil temperature in the reservoir decreases below 70 DEG.F (21.11 DEG.C). Then the temperature switch closes and 115 V AC supplied to the heater coil. This increase the APU oil temperature to more than the APU compartment temperature during cold soak condition. When the oil temperature increases to above 110 DEG.F (43.33 DEG.C) (in case of a warm APU compartment temperature condition) the temperature switch opens and the oil heater is de-energized. The oil heater power supply is de-energized when the APU MASTER SW P/BSW is in the ON/R position. The APU oil heater 2KT is also de-energized on ground if no ground card is connected to the aircraft.
8.
BITE Test
_________ The ECB BITE does a test of the Airborne Auxiliary Power (AAP) system. The subsequent effect of the APU oil heating system is monitored in flight during long cold soak conditions:

System Description
__________________ An oil temperature switch monitors the oil temperature in the gearbox. If the oil temperature decreases below 15.56 deg.C (60.00 deg.F), the temperature switch closes and 115 V AC is supplied to a heater coil. This increases the APU oil temperature during cold soak conditions. When the oil temperature increases to above 48.89 deg.C (120.00 deg.F) the temperature switch then opens and stops the 115 V AC supply to the heater coil. The APU oil heater 2KT has no direct connection to the ECB 59KD.
