A clean mode is automatically selected every tenth descent. The clean mode is the same as the override mode and is commanded for two minutes to remove contaminants from the equipment cooling ducts. The clean mode will only operate when the selector switch is in NORM.

An automatic system self test is initiated after the tenth landing and descent is detected. A ground signal must be maintained for 30 seconds before the test initiates to prevent the self test during touch and go mode of operation. The test is inhibited if cargo fire procedures have been initiated, or the system is operating in closed loop or if the OVRD mode has been selected. The system self test will selects both the supply and exhaust fans off and opens the ground exhaust and bypass valves while simultaneously close the E6/E9 valve. All valves will then return to their normal operating positions and the fans will restart.

The aft equipment cooling system is automatic and operated whenever there is power on the airplane.
(a)
The primary fan is normally on.
(b)
If the primary fan fails, the alternate fan will operate.
(c)
If the cargo fire system is armed, both fans will stop.
