Procedure


 S 584-038
 (1)  Lift the nose of the airplane with jacks until the tires clear of the ground (AMM 07-11-21/201).

 CAUTION: DO NOT OPERATE THE STEERING WHEEL WITH THE SHOCK STRUT FULLY
_______ EXTENDED OR THE TORSION LINKS CONNECTED. DAMAGE TO THE CENTERING CAMS OF THE SHOCK STRUT CAN OCCUR IF YOU TRY TO OPERATE THE STEERING SYSTEM. MAKE SURE THE SHOCK STRUT IS COMPRESSED 2.10 INCHES OR MORE BEFORE YOU OPERATE THE STEERING SYSTEM. ALSO, THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE BOTTOM SURFACE OR THE LOWER STEERING PLATE AND THE TOP SURFACE OF TOWING LUG MUST BE LESS THAN 21.90 INCHES.
 (2)  
Set the greased turning plates under the tires of the nose landing gear.

 (3)  
Lower the airplane to the ground until the landing gear will support the airplane.

Pressurize the hydraulic system A (AMM 29-15-00/201).

 (5)  
Make sure the nose landing gear does not try to steer when you pressurize the hydraulic system A.

 (6)  
Make sure the steering wheel is in the center position.

 (7)  
Make sure the rudder pedals are in the neutral position.

 (8)  
Turn the steering wheel counterclockwise to the left stop position and hold.

 (a)  
Make sure the nose landing gear steers approximately 78 degrees to the left.

 (b)  
Examine the actuator swivel for hydraulic leaks.

Turn the steering wheel clockwise to the right stop position and hold.

 (a)  
Make sure the nose landing gear steers approximately 78 degrees to the right.

 (b)  
Examine the actuator swivel for hydraulics leaks.

 Make sure the steering wheel goes back to the neutral position.

 Make sure the nose landing gear goes back to the center position.

 Lift the nose of the airplane with jacks until the tires clear of the ground (AMM 07-11-21/201).

Remove the greased turning plates.

 Lower the airplane to the ground with the jacks (AMM 07-11-21/201).

 Remove the jacks from the airplane.

 STEERING COLLAR - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General_______
 A.  This procedure contains two tasks:
 (1)  
The removal of the steering collar on the nose landing gear.

 (2)  
The installation of the steering collar on the nose landing gear.

 B.  
This procedure is for the removal and the installation of the steering collar only. Refer to AMM 32-51-51/401 for the removal and installation of the steering cylinders.

 A.  Standard Tools and Equipment
 (1)  Rigging Pin - 0.311 + 0.000/-0.002 inch diameter x 6.0 inches long
 NOTE: The rigging pin is part of F70207-69 or F70207-78
