 HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM - ADJUSTMENT/TEST

 1.  General
_______
 A.  After repair or replacement of linkage or cables, the mechanical portion of the brake control system must be adjusted (rigged).
 B.  Do a test for the hydraulic brake system to examine the function of all the system. The tests are made on a periodic inspection or on a brake malfunction report. A check is done for the pressure at the accumulator and the brake lines. A check is done for the brakes for correct operation and for automatic response.
 C.  The temperature of the airplane must be stable for one hour before rigging.

 2.  Adjust the Hydraulic Brake System

 A.  Standard Tools and Equipment
 (1)  Rigging pins - B-1, 0.309/0.311-inch diameter by 12.7 inches long (four necessary).
 NOTE: These rigging pins are part of F70207-69 or F70207-78

Adjust the Brake Control Linkage

 (1)  
Put chocks on the wheels and release the parking brake.

Operate the rudder pedal adjustment crank (Fig. 501) to put the rudder pedals of the captain or the first officer in the neutral position.

 NOTE: Count the number of times the crank turns from the full
____ forward and the full aft adjustment to find the middle position.

 S 495-004
 (3)  Install a rigging pin through the floor beams and the bellcranks
 below each pair of rudder pedals.
 S 495-005
 (4)  Install the rigging pins through each pair of rudder pedal arms.
 NOTE:____ To permit the rigging pin installation in the rudder pedal
 arms, adjust the tie rods (Fig. 501) by the procedure that
 follows.

Disconnect the right ends of the tie rods.

Install the rigging pins through the bellcranks.

Loosen the jamnuts and adjust the length of the tie rods until you can freely install the rod end bolts.

Tighten the jamnuts and replace the rod end bolts.

Make sure that the rig pins are loose.

 Make sure that the rod end threads cover at least half of the inspection hole.


 NOTE: This will make sure the rod end is correctly engaged.

 (11) Put a square against each brake pedal and adjust the pushrod until the pedal tips are 3.06 +0.26/-0.21 inches from the square (Fig. 501).
