(1) Clean the upper (4), and the lower (12) support plates then apply a light layer of grease to the mating or the bearing surfaces.
NOTE: Apply a layer of Mastinox 6856K to parts which are not
____
lubricated with grease after installation.
NOTE: Apply a layer of MIL-PRF-23827, or the preferred grease BMS
____ 3-33 to parts which are lubricated with grease after installation (AMM 12-20-00/301).
NOTE:____The support plates are sets. If you replace one plate, you must machine it to match with the other plate.

(2)
Do the steps below to install the lower support plate (12):
(a)
Install the bearing (13) on the lower support plate (12).
(b)
Apply a thin layer of the compound, BMS 3-27, to the attach bolt (21) of the lower support plate.
(c)
Set the lower support plate (12) to the outer cylinder.
(d)
Install the attach bolt (21) of the lower support plate, washer (19), and the nut (18) to connect the lower support plate to the outer cylinder.
(e)
Tighten the nut (18).
(f)
Set the steering cylinder (11) on the lower support plate (12).
(g)
Fill the empty space between the lower trunnions of the steering cylinder and the lower support plate with corrosion preventive compound.
(h)
Install the washer (14), and the lower trunnion locknut (15) on the lower port of the steering cylinder (11).
NOTE: Do not tighten the locknut, it should be loose at this
____
time.

Do the steps below to install the upper support plate (4):
(a)
Install the bearing (3) on the upper support plate (4).
(b)
Apply a thin layer of the compound, BMS 3-27, to the attach bolt (5) of the upper support plate.
(c)
Set the upper support plate (4) to the outer cylinder.

Install the attach bolt (5) of the upper support plate, washer (22), and the nut (23) to connect the upper support plate to the outer cylinder.
(e)
Tighten the nut (23).
(f)
Set the steering cylinder (11) on the upper support plate (4).
(g)
Fill the empty space between the upper trunnions of the steering cylinder and the upper support plate with corrosion preventive compound.
(h)
Install the washers (6), (10), support plate spacers (7) between upper (4) and the lower (12) support plates.
(i)
Install the bolts (24), and (25) on the support plates.
(j)
Install the washer (2), and the upper trunnion locknut (1) on the upper port of the steering cylinder (11).
NOTE: Do not tighten the locknut, it should be loose at this
____
time.

(4) Do these steps to make sure the steering cylinder (11) is centered with the steering collar lugs:
NOTE: These instructions are to make sure that the rod end is
____ centered between the steering collar lugs before you tighten the two steering collar/rod end attach bolts per AMM 32-51-61/401. This is to prevent excessive pre-load on the actuator piston rod against one side of the gland.
