4. Fuel Transfer to Remove Air Pockets in the Engine Fuel-Feed Line Adjacent to____________________________________________________________________________ the Defueling Valve___________________
A. General
(1) Do this procedure if the No. 2 tank was emptied and the engine fuel-feed line was disconnected in any location from the No. 2 engine fuel shutoff valve (spar valve) to the crossfeed valve. It is possible for air to become trapped in the part of the fuel-feed line adjacent to the defueling valve. This can cause problems if the No. 2 engine operates with suction fuel feed.

Make sure there is a minimum of 1000 pounds (500 kgs) in the No. 2 tank.

Connect the external electrical power to the airplane (AMM 24-22-00/201).
NOTE:____You can also supply power with the APU. Do a check for minimum fuel quantities and other data before you start the APU.

Make sure all of the circuit breakers for the fuel system on the P6 panel are closed.

Open these circuit breakers and attach DO-NOT-CLOSE tags:
(a) P6 Main Power Distribution Panel
1) ENG 1 R IGN
2) ENG 1 L IGN
3) ENG 2 R IGN
4) ENG 2 L IGN

(5) S 862-194Make sure the crossfeed valve switch is in the CLOSE position.
(6) S 012-195Open the access door, 6540, for the refuel station (Fig. 201).
(7) S 712-197Set the fueling valve switches to OPEN to make sure the valve position lights operate correctly.
(8) S 862-198Leave the fueling valve switch for the No. 1 tank open.
(9) S 862-199Set the fueling valve switches for the No. 2 tank and the center tank to CLOSE.

(10) Open the access door, 6535, for the defueling valve.
(a) Set the defueling valve handle to OPEN.

(11) On the P5 panel, set these switches for the fuel boost pumps to ON:
(a)
FUEL PUMPS FWD 2
(b)
FUEL PUMPS AFT 2

Monitor the fuel quantities in the No. 1 tank and the No. 2 tank until the fuel quantity in the No. 2 tank decreases by 500 pounds (240 kgs) and the fuel quantity in the No. 1 tank increases by 500 pounds (240 kgs).

On the P5 panel, set these switches for the fuel boost pumps to OFF:

FUEL PUMPS AFT 2

If it is necessary, do this procedure: "Fuel Transfer from One Tank to a Different Tank" to set the fuel load to its correct configuration.

Set all of the fueling valve switches to the CLOSE position on the refuel panel (P15).
