FUEL QUANTITY INDICATING SYSTEM TOTAL RESISTANCE - INSPECTION/CHECK
___________________________________________________________________
1. General_______
A. Empty tank resistance measurements cannot be made from the flight deck. This is due to the Isolated Fuel Quantity Transmitter (IFQT) device that isolates the FQIS indicators from the in-tank components.
B. This procedure has these tasks:
(1)
A resistance check of the components in the fuel tank
(2)
A resistance check of the IFQT wire harnesses (IFQT-to-tank)
(3)
A resistance check of the indicator-to-IFQT wiring
C. If you think that there is a problem with the FQIS, it is recommended that a quick resistance test of the components in the fuel tank be done. This test will be done at the applicable tank bussing plug.
D. A low resistance is an indication of a short circuit somewhere in the tank, while a high resistance is an indication of an open circuit such as a broken wire or intermittent terminal contacts.
E. If an resistance measurement is not satisfactory, additional resistance measurements should be done at the spar connector which will help to isolate the probe or compensator (or wiring) that is at fault.
F. Resistance measurements of components in the fuel tank must be made on the tank side of the IFQT. The easiest location to get access to the FQIS on the tank side of the IFQT is at the bussing plug or spar connector at the applicable fuel tank (Fig. 601).

A. Equipment
(1) System Test Set -- Model PSD40-1, PSD60-1, or PSD60-2: JC Air, 400 Industrial Parkway, Industrial Airport, KS 66031
NOTE: The subsequent procedure is written based on the use of a
____ PSD40 or PSD60 test set. Other suitable test sets such as the Gull GTF-2 may be used, however, the subsequent procedure would require modifications to reflect the operation of the alternate test set.
(2)
Test Harness -- F72731-81
(3)
Fuel Quantity System Test Cable (for use with JC AIR test sets) --PSD60-504 (used when checking in-tank components and safe-side harness resistances)
(4)
Fuel Quantity System Test Cable (for use with JC AIR test sets) --PSD60-503 (used when checking dry-side (aircraft wiring) and J1 harness (IFQT to indicator) resistances)
