(m) Turn the TANK CAP PF thumbwheels until the meter shows the minimum value.
NOTE: If you turn the thumbwheels to a position farther
____ than the correct position, the value increases.
(n) Turn the D.F.CONTROL knob until the meter shows the minimum value.
NOTE: If you turn the knob to a position farther than the
____ correct position, the value increases. The D.F. CONTROL has very little effect for capacitances below approximately 50 pF. The test unit is more sensitive to adjustment of the D.F. CONTROL for larger capacitances.
(o)
Make sure the TANK CAP PF thumbwheels are set to 40.2 pf with a tolerance of |1.2 pf. 1) If the capacitance is out of the correct range, do this
task: Tank Unit and Compensator Test (AMM 28-41-21/501) to find the problem with the compensator or the wiring.
(p)
Release the PRESS TO MEASURE switch.
(q)
Disconnect the COMP wire bundle from the LO-Z receptacle on the test unit.
(r)
Connect a shorting cap on the COMP wire bundle.
(s)
Remove the shorting cap from the UNSHIELDED wire bundle.
(t)
Connect the unshielded wire bundle to the LO-Z tank receptacle.
(u)
Install a shorting cap on the COMP receptacle on the test unit.

(5) Adjust the capacitance trimmer.
(a)
Get access to the capacitance trimmers on the right side of the control stand above the hand microphone receptacle.
(b)
Set the TANK CAP PF thumbwheels to the capacitance value for the applicable tank from this table: ~.................................... | TANK | CAPACITANCE (pf) | ...................................... | No. 1 and 2 | 506.6 | ...................................... | Center | 180.2 | 2................…...................1
(c)
Push the PRESS TO MEASURE switch and hold it.
(d)
Make sure the meter shows zero.

(e) If the meter does not show zero, turn the D.F. CONTROL knob until the meter shows the minimum value while you continue to hold the PRESS TO MEASURE switch.
NOTE: If you turn the knob to a position farther than the
____ correct position, the value increases. The D.F. CONTROL has very little effect for capacitances below approximately 50 pF. The test unit is more sensitive to adjustment of the D.F. CONTROL for larger capacitances.
(f) If the meter does not show zero, do these steps: 1) While you continue to hold the PRESS TO MEASURE switch, turn the applicable trimmer with a screwdriver.
2) Continue this procedure until the meter on the test unit shows the minimum value.
NOTE: The minimum value must be as close to zero as
____ possible. A value less than 50 microamps is acceptable.
3) Let the value on the test unit become stable.
(g)
If you adjusted the trimmer, turn the D.F. CONTROL knob again until the meter shows the minimum value while you continue to hold the PRESS TO MEASURE switch.
(h)
Release the PRESS TO MEASURE switch.

(6) Adjust the test unit to give the capacitances equivalent to a full fuel tank.
(a)
Set the battery switch on the test unit to OFF.
