G. Drain the Fuel from the Sumps

(1) Drain the sump fuel from the No. 1 or the No. 2 tank that you defueled.
NOTE: The best attitude to drain the sumps is 0.15 degree nosedown

(a)
Electrically ground the container and other applicable equipment to the airplane structure (AMM 20-40-11/201). 1) Do not connect the container and other equipment to the
airplane structure in the area immediately adjacent to the sump drain valve.
(b)
Put the drain tool (Fig. 203) for the main tank sump into the sump drain.

Push the tool up and turn it until the tabs on the tool hold it in the correct position.
(d)
When the fuel flow stops, remove the tool.
H. Sump Drain Procedure

(a)
Open the access door for the sump valve for the center tank (Fig. 202).
(b)
Electrically ground the metal container and other applicable equipment to the airplane structure (AMM 20-40-11/201). 1) Do not connect the container and other equipment to the
airplane structure in the immediate area of the sump drain.
(c)
AIRPLANES WITH THE TOOL-OPERATED SUMP DRAIN VALVE; Turn the sump drain valve and push it up to open it. 1) Hold the drain valve in this position until all of the fuel
flow stops. 2) You can make a tool to help you drain the fuel (Fig. 203).
(d)
AIRPLANES WITH THE ROD-OPERATED SUMP DRAIN VALVE; Pull the rod that operates the valve down. 1) Hold the rod down until the fuel flow stops. 2) Use a 0.5 inch I.D. hose and clamp that you can make
locally to help you drain the fuel.
(e)
AIRPLANES WITH THE TOOL-OPERATED SUMP DRAIN VALVE; Release the sump drain valve and turn it counterclockwise to close it. 1) Remove the tool. 2) Close the access door for the sump drain valve.
(f)
AIRPLANES WITH THE ROD-OPERATED SUMP DRAIN VALVE; Release the rod that operates the valve to close the valve. 1) Remove the clamp and the hose. 2) Close the access door for the sump drain valve.
