TANK AND COMPENSATOR UNITS - CLEANING/PAINTING

1. General_______
A. This procedure has one task, to clean the tank units and the compensator unit. The procedure removes microbial contamination from these units.

2. Clean the Tank Unit or the Compensator Unit___________________________________________
A. Standard Tools and Equipment
(1)
Container - with sufficient depth to clean tank units
(2)
Brushes - Nylon bristle
(3)
Brush - with a bristle outside diameter of 1/4 to 3/8 inch. An extension rod must be attached and the handle and the extension must have a plastic cover.

(1) Remove the applicable tank unit or the compensator
(AMM 28-41-21/401).

WARNING:_______MAKE SURE THE AREA HAS A GOOD FLOW OF AIR. DO NOT BREATHE THE GAS FROM THE ALCOHOL OR USE IT IN AN AREA WITH AN OPEN FLAME. INJURY TO PERSONS CAN EASILY OCCUR.
CAUTION: DO NOT MOVE OR LOOSEN THE SPACERS WHEN YOU CLEAN THE INNER
_______ ELECTRODE. THE FUEL QUANTITY INDICATING SYSTEM WILL NOT GIVE THE CORRECT VALUE.
(2) Fully rub all of the surfaces of the tank unit or the compensator with the alcohol and the nylon brushes.
(a) Do not use water or soap.

(b) (c) Do not make scratches in the tank unit or the compensator.Make sure you remove all of the microbial contamination.
(3) S 177-004Remove all of the loose material with a good flow of clean alcohol.
(4) S 167-005Fully rub the tank unit or the compensator with a clean lintfree cloth to dry it.
(5) S 417-006Install the tank unit or the compensator (Ref 28-41-21/401).

FUEL QUANTITY INDICATING SYSTEM WIRE HARNESS - APPROVED REPAIRS

1. General_______
A. This procedure is to be used only for the recrimping of FQIS wire harnesses with terminal lugs that were originally crimped and not soldered. This procedure is not to be used for the repair of FQIS wire harnesses with terminal lugs that are crimped and soldered.
B. This procedure has one task. The task is to tighten the crimp on the terminal lugs for the wire harness in the fuel tank.
C. It can be necessary to tighten the crimp in the terminal lugs to make a better connection to the wire bundle. This makes sure that there is electrical continuity in the fuel quantity indicating system.
