 4.  Operation (Fig. 1)

 A.  When a fire is detected in an engine, the appropriate fire switch handle light comes on. A solenoid energizes, releasing a mechanical interlock on the handle shaft. The handle is then operable. When the engine fire switch handle is pulled, the extinguishing bottles are armed for that engine, the engine generator field relay and generator circuit breaker are tripped, the engine fuel shut-off valve closes, the engine hydraulic shut-off valve closes, the bleed air valve closes, power to the engine thrust reverser isolation valve is removed, and the hydraulic warning lights illuminate.
 B.  After pulling a fire switch handle, rotating it discharges the extinguishing agent into the appropriate engine. Rotating the handle counterclockwise discharges left bottle. Rotating it clockwise discharges right bottle. Decreasing bottle pressure activates the pressure switch, which turns on the appropriate L or R BOTTLE DISCHARGE light.
 C.  Engine fire extinguishing agent can be discharged to either engine from either bottle; each bottle has squib and discharge port for each engine. Tubing runs from the bottles through the wing spars to each engine. Extinguishing agent discharges from outlet nozzles above the center of the engine.
