WARNING: KEEP THE SHUNTS AND THE PROTECTIVE CAPS ON THE FIRE
_______ BOTTLE EXCEPT WHEN THE FIRE BOTTLE IS ON THE SCALE. DAMAGE TO THE DIAPHRAGM CAN CAUSE THE FIRE BOTTLE TO LET OUT ITS CONTENTS AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
(a) Measure the total weight of the fire bottle with the scale.
NOTE:____The weight of the fire bottle includes: discharge outlets, discharge squibs, fill fitting, and extinguishing agent.
NOTE: Remove all proctive caps and shunts when the fire bottle
____
is weighed.
(b)
Subtract the weight of the fire bottle from the weight on the identification plate (attached to the fire bottle).
(c)
Replace the fire bottle if the difference is +0.10 pound or more.

(1) Find the service life of the discharge cartridge (referred to as the squib).
(a)
Read the manufacturer's date mark on the body of the squib.
(b)
Refer to the manufacturer's data for the maximum recommended service life of the squib.
NOTE: If the squib is around high temperatures or unusual
____ conditions, the service life can change from the given value. For more data, speak to HTL ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY, Monrovia, California 91016.
(c) Replace the squib if the service life of the squib is more than recommended by the manufacturer.

ENGINE FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE SQUIB - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES

1. General
_______
A. This procedure has two tasks. The first task removes the squib on the engine fire extinguisher bottle. The second task installs the squib.
B. The squib on the engine fire bottle is usually serviced more frequently than the fire extinguisher bottle. There is a manufacturer's date stamp on the edge of the squib. (See the manufacturer's recommendations for the applicable maximum service life).

2. Remove the Squib

A. General
WARNING: MAKE SURE THERE ARE CAPS OR SHUNT PLUGS INSTALLED ON THE SQUIBS
_______ WHEN YOU TOUCH OR MOVE THE SQUIBS. THE SQUIB IS AN EXPLOSIVE DEVICE AND CAN CAUSE INJURY IF IT IS ACCIDENTALLY FIRED.
(1) To prevent incorrect squib connections, do the removal and installation procedures for each squib, one at a time.
B. Standard Tools and Equipment
(1) Conductive rubber shunt plugs (supplied with the squibs)

D. Procedure

(1) Open these circuit breakers and attach DO-NOT-CLOSE tags:
(a) P6 Load Control Center Panel 1) FIRE PROTECTION DETECTION EXTINGUISHER BOTTLES RIGHT (two circuit breakers)
2) FIRE PROTECTION DETECTION EXTINGUISHER BOTTLES LEFT (two circuit breakers)
