APU FIRE DETECTION SYSTEM - ADJUSTMENT/TEST

1. General_______
A. The APU fire detection system monitors the temperature in the APU compartment. When an overheat or fire condition exists, the system activates: the fire warning lights, the alarm bell, and the warning horn. The system also does a shutdown of the APU.
B. The APU fire detection system uses power from the 28-volt dc battery bus. The circuit breaker is on the P6-2 panel.
C. There are two tasks in this section:
(1)
Operational Test of the APU Fire Detection System
(a) The operational test is done in a minimum of time, and uses equipment installed on the airplane to make sure that the system will operate correctly.
(2)
System Test of the APU Fire Detection System.
(a) The system test is a full check of the APU fire-detection system.

Make sure these circuit breakers are closed:

(3) Open these circuit breakers on the P6-2 panel:
(a) OVHT WHL WELL WNG BDY
D. Procedure

(1) Try to pull the APU fire switch handle on the Engine and APU Fire Control panel (P8-1).
(a) The switch must stay in the locked position.

CAUTION: DO NOT TURN THE FIRE SWITCH WHILE IT IS IN THE OUT POSITION.

THE CONTENTS OF THE BOTTLE WILL BE LET OUT.
(2)
Push the override button below the APU fire switch.

Pull up on the APU fire switch.
(a) The lock should be released and the switch pulled out.

Push the APU fire switch to close.

Hold the TEST switch, on the P8-1 panel, to the OVHT/FIRE position.
(a) Make sure that these indications occur: 1) The two (red) FIRE WARN lights on the P7 panel come on. 2) The lights in the APU fire switch come on. 3) The alarm bell in the control cabin operates. 4) The warning horn in the wheel well operates. 5) The fire warning light in the main wheel well flashes.
