E. Remove an APU Fire Detector Element

Remove the lockwire from the connectors.

Remove the electrical connectors from the element.

Install protective caps on the element and the connector.

Remove the jamnuts from the element fittings.

Release the clamps along the length of the element.
NOTE:____Hold the element. Do not bend the element.

Slide the element out of the brackets and remove it.

Replace the jamnuts on the element fittings.

Install protective caps on the element fittings.

Tape the detector cable and connector to the heat shield and muffler assembly.

Remove four bolts attaching drip pan and remove the drip pan.

CAUTION: DO NOT BEND OR NICK THE DETECTORS WHEN THE APU AFT FAIRING IS
_______ PULLED FROM THE AIRPLANE. DAMAGE TO THE DETECTOR MAY OCCUR.

Remove APU aft fairing (AMM 49-81-31/401).

Remove an exhaust overheat sensing element as follows:
(a)
Remove lockwire from connectors and disconnect cable.
(b)
Remove the jamnuts from the element fittings.
(c)
Release the clamps along the length of the element.
NOTE:____Hold the element. Do not bend the element.
(d)
Slide the element fittings away from the bracket and remove the element.
