If the ILS course parameter or the magnetic heading is not valid, the course pointer is constantly displayed in the vertical position, in red color. When the LOC or the glide slope deviation parameter SSM changes from NO to NCD, the associated deviation index is still displayed during 3s, in its last valid position, then it disappears (for the same reason as VOR mode).

A red LOC flag appears in the center of the ND as soon as the frequency or deviation information has failed. In case of excessive deviation with respect to the glide path, the white scale and the magenta lozenge pulse. The G/S deviation indication and the scale disappear as soon as one of the following pieces of information has failed: frequency or deviation. Then a red G/S flag is displayed at their location. The same information as in ROSE VOR mode is provided in the right upper corner, in magenta color, but concerning the selected ILS station (ILS1 for F/O ND and ILS2 for CAPT ND). Only the CRS symbol and the ILS1 or ILS2 symbols are in white.

When the information "BACK BEAM/BACK COURSE" is transmitted by the FMGC, the deviation on the LOC scale is reversed, the message B/C is displayed in magenta and the G/S scale disappears.

Pressing the ILS pushbutton on the FCU (Item C)
(Ref. Fig. 021)
displays a magenta ILS course symbol (item aj) on the heading scale,
provided that an ILS station and an ILS course are selected.
The course ILS symbol is removed when the ILS course value is not
computed or is invalid, or when the heading or the ILS frequency is
invalid.
Item aj: Selected ILS course
The ILS selected course is given by the ILS label 105 and the ADIRU
label 320
