The value for the analog vertical speed is transmitted by the ADIRU (ADC part) on the label 212
-a number in a moving blanking window. This window accompanies the needle (above the needle if V/S > 0, below if V/S < 0). The number gives the V/S value in hundreds of ft/mn. Between -200 ft/mn and +200 ft/mn, both the window and the number disappear.
-above +6000 ft/mn (or below -6000 ft/mn), the needle remains stopped where it is. The value for the displayed digital vertical speed is transmitted by the ADIRU (IRS part) on the label 365.

NOTE : On a detection of a ventilation failure (DUs no longer
____ cooled), the grey background colored areas of the PFD image might be removed, in order to decrease the thermal dissipation of the DUs.

Excessive Vertical Speed (Ref. Fig. 069) item (A) When the vertical speed exceeds +6000 ft/mn or -6000 ft/mn, the digital indication and the analog needle change from green to amber. In addition, those indications change to amber in approach, in the following cases:

V/S less than -2000ft/mn below 2500ft (R/A)
-
V/S less than -1200ft/mn below 1000ft (RA)

Degraded Data (Ref. Fig. 069) item (B) When the source giving the V/S parameter is no more the IR but the ADR, an amber window surrounding the digital value appears cautioning the pilot that this is a degraded data indication.

Failure Indication (Ref. Fig. 069) item (C). In case of failure warning, the V/S scale is removed and replaced by a red flag indication.
