Briefly, the 5 columns are dedicated to the display of the AFS armed and active modes, sub-systems engagement status and approach operational capabilities. In addition, warning messages associated with the AFS operation may be presented. Assignment of the FMA zones (except special messages in zones AB3 and BC3):
-1st column : indications related to the auto-throttle system operation : modes and alert messages.
-2nd column : indications related to the A/C longitudinal control: active and armed modes.
-3rd column : ditto for the A/C lateral control.
-4th column : approach capability indications.
-5th column : AFS sub-system engagement status AP, FD, A/THR. The various messages/mode indications are presented in various colors, according to the following code:
-green : active mode.
-cyan : armed mode, preset value (VC or Mach).
-magenta : mode armed or engaged because of a constraint which will be or which is followed by the AFS in longitudinal or lateral auto-control.
-
white : engagement status of the APs, the FDs and the A/THR sub-systems of the AFS.
-
white (flashing) : the FD2 indication on the FD1 flashes white for 10 seconds and then remains steady in case of automatic FMGC switching.
-
amber (flashing) : indications calling for immediate attention and action to be carried out.
-
amber (fixed) : indications corresponding to special operation and modes requiring special attention.

-FLARE.ROLL OUT.LAND. which concern both the longitudinal and
lateral part.
(2)The first vertical bar is shorter when there are messages
to be displayed in the AB3 zone.
(3)The 2nd vertical bar is shorter when there are messages to
be displayed in the BC3 zone.
(4)In a given zone, all the possible indications/messages at
the same location exclude each other (logic made by the
FMGCs).
When a message appears in one of the following places: A1, B1,
C1, D1, E1, BC1, E2, E3, D2, it is surrounded by a white box
during 10 seconds.

(2) Messages The following tables show the different messages with the associated colors (G for green, C for cyan, M for magenta, R for red, A for amber, W for white). The colors of the surrounding boxes and flashing condition are also given.
