If the altitude is negative, a NEG white message is added at the left
side of the digital value (instead of the 10 thousand digit). The
digital value is limited to minus 15000 ft.
When the altitude is negative, the classical mechanical altimeter
moves in the same way but all the scale are opposite (without sign).
(3) Altitude Alerts When the A/C approaches a selected altitude or flight level, the altitude counter window pulses as long as the A/C is within the boundaries : (sel alt -750 ft., sel alt -250 ft.) or (sel alt +250 ft., sel alt +750 ft).

(4) Non Precision Approach If the pilot performs a non precision approach and reaches or goes below the MDA (Minimum Descent Altitude), the altitude digits change from green to amber.

When the FMGC operates in vertical auto control, if altitude constraints are included in the flight plan, they replace the FCU altitude selection. The FMGC sends the value for the dedicated symbol on the label 164. The selected altitude value and the associated symbol change from cyan to magenta.
