Moreover, at least one FD must be engaged.
Provided that there is a value displayed in the FCU HDG/TRK counter
and the FD is off, a cyan vertical bar on the horizon line indicates
the selected heading or track.

The pitch and roll bars automatically go out of view at touchdown in
land mode.
In some cases, the FD bars flash for 10 s and then remain steady. For
example in the following conditions :
-reversion to the AFS basic modes (case of power supply transient),
-change of selected flight level when the AFS was already engaged in ALT CAPT mode.
-loss of LOC or G/S in land mode or loss of LAND mode.

By means of the HDG V/S - TRK FPA pushbutton switch on the FCU, the crew can choose either set of basic modes for the AFS, and subsequent presentation on the PFD:
-
with the HDG V/S mode, the A/C attitude presentation is privileged,
-
with the TRK FPA mode, the A/C symbol is dimmed and the flight path vector symbol appears giving the A/C actual flight path angle and drift angle (track).
The flight path vector symbol provides the pilot with the A/C present flight path angle and the A/C present track information. This symbol provides the pilot with the display of his actual flight path trajectory, in longitudinal and in vertical so that he sees no discontinuity when "switching" from this symbol on the PFD to the view of the outside world through the windshield. The Flight Path Vector lateral displacements are limited to 21 degrees drift angle.
