(d) Install the bolts, washers, spacers, and bushings that follow:
1) At hinges 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9, install the bushings [32], washers [31], and bolts [30] to the
hinge fittings.
2) At hinge 2, install the spacer [5], bushing [6], washer [7], and bolt [8] to the hinge fitting.
3) At hinge 3, install the bushing [18], washer [17], and bolt [16] to the hinge fitting.
4) At hinge 7, install bushing [38], washer [37], and bolt [36] to the hinge fitting.
(e) Release the RUDDER [1] slowly until the load is on its hinges.
(f) Make sure the torque required to rotate the bolts is less than 100 in-lb (11.3 Nm).
(g) Install the nuts, washers, and pins in the order that follow:
1) At hinge 2, install the washer [4] and nut [3].
a) Tighten the nut [3] to 150 in-lb (16.9 Nm) -- 200 in-lb (22.6 Nm).
NOTE: Tighten the nut [3] to the lower end of the torque range. Continue to tighten
the nut until the next castellation aligns with the hole in the bolt [8].
b) Install the new pin [2].
2) At hinges 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9, install the washers [33] and nuts [34].
a) Tighten the nuts [34] to 150 in-lb (16.9 Nm) -- 200 in-lb (22.6 Nm).
NOTE: Tighten the nuts [34] to the lower end of the torque range. Continue to
tighten the nut until the next castellation aligns with the hole in the bolts
[30].
b) Install the new pin [35].
3) At hinge 3, do these steps:
a) Install the bushing [19] at hinge 3.
b) Adjust the bushing until it is against the fin bearing with finger tight pressure only.
c) Install the washers [20] and nut [21].

d) Tighten the nut [21] to 150 in-lb (16.9 Nm) -- 200 in-lb (22.6 Nm).
NOTE: Tighten the nut [21] to the lower end of the torque range. Continue to
tighten the nut until the next castellation aligns with the hole in the bolts
[16].
e) Install the new pin [22].
f) Install the lockwire, G01048 from the bushing [19] to hinge fitting.
g) Fill the holes of the lockwire, G01048 with sealant, A00247.
4) At hinge 7, install the nut [42].
a) Tighten the nut [42] to 150 in-lb (16.9 Nm) -- 200 in-lb (22.6 Nm).
NOTE: Tighten the nut [42] to the lower end of the torque range. Continue to
tighten the nut until the next castellation aligns with the hole in the bolt
[36].
b) Install the new pin [43].

(4) Apply sealant, A00247 to both ends of the bonding jumper [47] and their fasteners.

(5) Connect the control rod for the rudder position transmitter to the vertical fin:
(a) Install the washer [25], washer [24], and bolt [23].

(6) Install the bolt [44], washers [45], and nut [46] to connect the bonding jumper [47] to the vertical
fin at hinge 9.
(a) Use the bonding meter, COM-1550 ohmmeter to make sure there is a maximum of 0.010
ohm between the vertical fin and the rudder [1].

(7) Remove the sling, SPL-2033.

(8) Make sure that there is clearance between all the seals and the forward part of the rudder and
the balance weight.
NOTE: Manually move the rudder approximately seven degrees in each direction to examine
the clearance.

(9) Move the rudder to the left and right from the neutral position.
(a) Make sure that rudder moves left and right a minimum of 30 degrees from the neutral
position.

(10) Do this step to connect the rudder standby power control unit (PCU) to the RUDDER [1]:
(a) Install bolt [26], washer [27], bushing [50], washer [28], and nut [29]
(b) Tighten the nut [29] to 400 in-lb (45.2 Nm) -- 500 in-lb (56.5 Nm).

(11) Do these steps to connect the rudder main PCU to the RUDDER [1]:
(a) Install the bushing [11], bolt [10], bolt [9], washer [12], and nut [13].
1) Tighten the nut [13] to 800 in-lb (90.39 Nm) -- 960 in-lb (108.46 Nm).

CAUTION: DO NOT TIGHTEN THE NUT [13] AFTER YOU TIGHTEN THE NUT [15]. YOU CAN
CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(b) Install washer [14] and nut [15].
1) Tighten the nut [15] to 400 in-lb (45.2 Nm) to 480 in-lb (54.2 Nm).
