RUDDER CONTROL TORQUE TUBE - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. General
A. This procedure has these tasks:
(1) A removal of the rudder control torque tube
(2) An installation of the rudder control torque tube.
B. The rudder control torque tube is referred to as the "torque tube" in this procedure.

(1) Do this task: Remove Pressure from the Rudder Hydraulic Systems A, B, and Standby,

(2) Remove these access panels:

E. Torque Tube Removal

SUBTASK 27-21-71-020-010-002
(1) Remove the nut [33], washer [32], washer [31], and bolt assembly [30] to disconnect the standby
rudder PCU control rod [2] from the upper crank [34].

(2) Remove the nuts [33], washers [32], washers [31], and bolt assemblies [30] to disconnect the
main rudder PCU control rods [3] from the center cranks [29].

(3) Remove the nut [11], washer [10], and bolt [9] to disconnect the aft quadrant control rod [12] from
the lower crank [20].

(4) Remove the nut [7], nut [6], washer [5], and bolt assembly [4] to disconnect the control rod [8]
from the lower crank [20].

(5) Remove the rudder trim actuator [18], do this task: Rudder Trim Actuator Removal,

(6) Remove the torque tube [1]:
(a) Use a marker or pen to make marks to identify the installed positions of the center cranks
[29], and upper crank [34].
(b) Remove the nuts [27], washers [26], washers [25], bolt [24], and bolt [28] that attach the
upper crank [34] to the torque tube [1].
(c) Remove the nuts [27], washers [26], washers [25], bolts [24], and bolts [28] that attach the
center cranks [29] to the torque tube [1].
(d) Remove the nuts [39], washers [38], and bolts [37] that attach the lower bearing housing
[21] to airplane structure.
NOTE: Do not remove the lower crank [22] from the torque tube [1].
(e) Pull the torque tube [1] down through the upper bearing housing [35], upper crank [34], and
center cranks [29].
(f) Remove the torque tube [1], upper crank [34], and center cranks [29] from the airplane.
