(1) Remove the lock, SPL-1727.
SUBTASK 27-21-91-480-011-001
(2) Install the equipment, SPL-1732 to the main rudder pcu installation [1] (Figure 402).

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS TO INSTALL THE MAIN
RUDDER CAREFULLY AND DO THE PROCEDURE IN THE SPECIFIED SEQUENCE.
DAMAGE TO THE VERNIER CONTROL ROD [9] MAY OCCUR IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW
THE INSTRUCTIONS CORRECTLY.
(3) Install the main rudder pcu installation [1] (Figure 401):
(a) Use a 200 pounds (90.7 kilograms) fishpole to put the main rudder pcu installation [1] in its
position with the forward manifold [11] in the forward direction.
(b) Connect the forward manifold [11] to the vertical fin structure:
1) Install the washer [34], bushing [23], bolt assembly [22], washer [24], and nut [25].
2) Use the equipment, SPL-1731 to tighten the nut [25] to 1000-1200 pound-inches (113.0-
135.6 newton-meters).
3) Install the washer [26] and nut [27].
CAUTION: DO NOT TIGHTEN THE NUT [25] AFTER YOU TIGHTEN THE NUT [27]. THIS
CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
4) Tighten the nut [27] to 650-800 pound-inches (73.4-90.4 newton-meters).
(c) Connect the rod assembly [2] to the rudder:
1) Install the bolt assembly [28], washer [29], and nut [30].
2) Tighten the nut [30] to 900-1050 pound-inches (101.7-118.6 newton-meters).
3) Install the washer [31] and nut [32].
CAUTION: DO NOT TIGHTEN THE NUT [30] AFTER YOU TIGHTEN THE NUT [32]. THIS
CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
4) Tighten the nut [32] to 450-550 pound-inches (50.8-62.1 newton-meters).

(4) Remove the equipment, SPL-1732 from the main rudder pcu installation [1]:
(a) Remove the screws [53] and washers [54] from the beam assembly [55].
(b) Remove the screws [51] and washers [52] from the bracket assembly [56].

(c) Remove the bracket assembly [56] and beam assembly [55].

(5) Install the vernier control rod [8]:
(a) Put the vernier control rod [8] in its position with the vernier adjustment end in the forward
direction.
(b) Make sure that you can see 7 +/- 1 threads on the forward end of the rod and the sleeve.
(c) Connect the vernier control rod [8] to the external summing lever [3] and rudder actuator
input crank [10]:
1) Install the bolt assemblies [4] and washers [5].
2) Tighten the outer bolt of the bolt assemblies [4] to 70-85 pound-inches (7.9-9.6 newtonmeters).
3) Install the washers [6] and nuts [7].
CAUTION: DO NOT TIGHTEN THE OUTER BOLT OF THE BOLT ASSEMBLY [4]
AFTER YOU TIGHTEN THE NUT [7]. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO
EQUIPMENT.
4) Tighten the nuts [7] to 25-30 pound-inches (2.8-3.4 newton-meters).

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU CORRECTLY INSTALL THE HYDRAULIC LINES TO THE MAIN
RUDDER PCU. MAKE SURE THAT CORRECT UNIONS ARE INSTALLED IN THE
HYDRAULIC PORTS. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE MAIN RUDDER PCU.
(6) Connect the hydraulic lines to the main rudder pcu installation [1]:
(a) Remove the caps and plugs from the hydraulic lines and ports.
(b) If the main rudder pcu installation [1] does not have unions and packings installed, then do
these steps:
1) Apply fluid, D00153 to the unions, reducer and packings.
