(d) Rotate the captain’s control wheel to the full left and hold.
1) Make sure the rudder moves 2.47 in. (62.7 mm) ±0.25 in. (6.35 mm) (2.4 +/- 0.3
degrees) to the left side.
(e) Put the captain’s control wheel back to the neutral position.
(f) Rotate the captain’s control wheel to the full right and hold.
1) Make sure the rudder moves from left to right.
2) Make sure the rudder moves 2.47 in. (62.7 mm) ±0.25 in. (6.35 mm) (2.4 +/- 0.3
degrees) to the right side.
(g) Put the captain’s control wheel back to the neutral position.

(7) Return the flaps to the retracted postion. To retract them, do this task: Retract the Trailing Edge

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF ALL CONTROL
SURFACES BEFORE YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. AILERONS, RUDDER,
ELEVATORS, FLAPS, SPOILERS, SLATS, AND THRUST REVERSERS CAN MOVE
QUICKLY WHEN YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO
PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1) If hydraulic pressure is powered, do this step to turn off hydraulic power:
(a) Do this task: Remove Pressure from the Rudder Hydraulic Systems A, B, and Standby,

CAUTION: USE A LOADING BLOCK AND DO NOT PUT MORE THAN 50 LBF (222 N) ON THE
RUDDER WHEN YOU MOVE THE RUDDER SURFACE BY AN EXTERNAL FORCE.
APPLY THE EXTERNAL FORCE APPROXIMATELY AT BETWEEN 6 INCHES (162
MILLIMETERS) AND 18 IN. (457 MM) FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE TRAILING EDGE
AND APPROXIMATELY 3 IN. (76 MM) FORWARD OF THE TRAILING EDGE. IF YOU DO
NOT APPLY FORCE AT THIS LOCATION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE RUDDER
(2) Do the rudder hinge friction check:
NOTE: If the dial indicator is not available, you can use a ruler to measure the rudder trailing
edge placement in this test.
(a) Make sure the rudder and rudder pedals are in the neutral position.
(b) Make sure the rudder trim indicator is at zero units of trim.
(c) Use a block, STD-1278 and push/pull scale 0-25 pound (0-11 kilogram), STD-753 to move the
rudder fully to the left side.
1) Verify that there is no sign of binding, rough spots or excessive friction at any point of
travel.
a) If binding or excessive friction exist, the bearings may be out of alignment,
damaged or improperly installed. Correct this condition and repeat this check.
(d) Use a block, STD-1278 and push/pull scale 0-25 pound (0-11 kilogram), STD-753 to move the
rudder fully to the right side.
1) Verify that there is no sign of binding, rough spots or excessive friction at any point of
travel.
a) If binding or excessive friction exist, the bearings may be out of alignment,
damaged or improperly installed. Correct this condition and repeat this check.
(e) Attach the mount, STD-1279 on the tail cone.
(f) Place the pointer of the dial indicator, STD-1238 at the lower aft corner of the rudder trailing
edge.
(g) Use a block, STD-1278 and push/pull scale 0-25 pound (0-11 kilogram), STD-753 to move the
