WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF ALL CONTROL
SURFACES BEFORE YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. AILERONS, RUDDERS,
ELEVATORS, FLAPS, SPOILERS, SLATS, AND THRUST REVERSERS CAN MOVE
QUICKLY WHEN YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO
PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1) Pressurize the elevator hydraulic systems A and B. To pressurize them, do this task: Elevator
Hydraulic System A and B - Pressurization, TASK 27-31-00-800-801.

(2) Do this task: Null Procedure - Mach Trim Actuator, TASK 27-31-00-700-801.

(3) Open this access panel:

(4) Use the bar, SPL-1677 to set the "B" dimension at 4 units of trim (39.89 +/- 0.01 inches or 1013.2
+/- 0.3 mm) (Figure 502).

(5) Operate the elevator in the full travel 6 times.

(6) Make sure the control column is in the neutral position.
G. Elevator Output Torque Tube Buss Linkage Test

CAUTION: DO NOT PUT A LOAD OF MORE THAN 65 POUNDS (289 NEWTONS) ON THE
ELEVATORS AT ONE TIME. IF THE LOAD IS TOO HEAVY, IT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO
THE ELEVATORS.
(1) Do a test of the elevator output torque tube:
(a) Set the FLT CONTROL A switch on the forward overhead panel, P5, to the OFF position.
(b) Make sure the FLT CONTROL B switch on the forward overhead panel, P5, is in the ON
position.
(c) Use a block, STD-1278 and force gauge, COM-1557 to apply a downward force of 15 +/- 1
pounds (67 +/- 4 newtons) to the right elevator trailing edge.
1) Slowly release the force.

2) Make a mark of the elevator position on the tailcone after you remove the force.
(d) Use a block, STD-1278 and force gauge, COM-1557 to apply an upward force of 10 +/- 1
pounds (45 +/- 4 newtons) to the right elevator trailing edge.
1) Hold the elevator in this position with the force you have applied.
2) Make a mark of the elevator position on the tailcone before you remove the force.
3) Slowly remove the force.
a) Make sure the distance between the up and down position of the right elevator is
not greater than 0.21 inch (5.3 mm).
(e) Set the FLT CONTROL A switch on the forward overhead panel, P5, to the ON position.
(f) Set the FLT CONTROL B switch on the forward overhead panel, P5, to the OFF position.
(g) Use a block, STD-1278 and force gauge, COM-1557 to apply a downward force of 15 +/- 1
pounds (67 +/- 4 newtons) to the left elevator trailing edge.
1) Slowly release the force.
2) Make a mark of the elevator position on the tailcone after you remove the force.
(h) Use a block, STD-1278 and force gauge, COM-1557 to apply an upward force of 10 +/- 1
pounds (45 +/- 4 newtons) to the left elevator trailing edge.
1) Hold the elevator in this position with the force you have applied.
2) Make a mark of the elevator position on the tailcone before you remove the force.
3) Slowly remove the force.
a) Make sure the distance between the up and down position of the left elevator is not
greater than 0.21 inch (5.3 mm).
H. Put the Airplane Back to Its Usual Condition
