F. Prepare for the Test

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF ALL CONTROL
SURFACES BEFORE YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. AILERONS, RUDDERS,
ELEVATORS, FLAPS, SPOILERS, SLATS, AND THRUST REVERSERS CAN MOVE
QUICKLY WHEN YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO
PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1) Pressurize elevator hydraulic systems A and B. To pressurize them, do this task: Elevator
Hydraulic System A and B - Pressurization, TASK 27-31-00-800-801.

(2) Do this task: Null Procedure - Mach Trim Actuator, TASK 27-31-00-700-801.

(4) Use the bar, SPL-1677 to set the "B" dimension at 21.32 +/- 0.10 inches (541.5 +/- 2.5 mm)
(Figure 502).
G. Neutral Shift Test
SUBTASK 27-31-00-730-010
(1) Do the neutral shift test:
(a) Make sure the right elevator trailing edge moves up 13.90 - 14.90 inches (353.1 - 378.5 mm)
from the index mark (Figure 523).
(b) Use the bar, SPL-1677 to set the "B" dimension at 45.84 +/- 0.10 inches (1164.3 +/- 2.5
mm).
(c) Move the captain’s control column aft and forward lightly to make sure it is in the neutral
position.
(d) Make sure the right elevator trailing edge moves down 3.20 - 3.80 inches (81.3 - 96.5 mm)
from the index mark.

(2) Do the following steps to check the elevator system:
NOTE: You use the Flight Management Computer Control Display Unit (FMC CDU) to do the
following Built-In-Test Equipment (BITE) test.
(a) If you need to supply electrical power, do this task: Supply Electrical Power,
TASK 24-22-00-860-811
(b) Push the INIT REF key on the CDU keyboard.
1) Push the Line Select Key (LSK) that is adjacent to each selection:
a) INDEX
b) MAINT
c) DFCS
d) EXTENDED MAINTENANCE
e) RIGGING

f) ELEVATOR
NOTE: After you make this selection, the CONTINUE will show. Do the instructions
that show on the CDU display before you push the LSK that is adjacent to
CONTINUE.
g) COMPLETE ELEV RIG
NOTE: This selection contains the ELEV RIG test.
h) During this test, do the instructions that show on the CDU display.
i) After you do the instructions that show on the CDU display, push the LSK that is
adjacent to CONTINUE.
2) Do the Elevator Rigging Check:
a) Make sure that the values for the A and B sides are between the limits that show on
the CDU display or in this task.
