(4) Use the bar, SPL-1677 to set the "B" dimension at 4 units of trim (39.89 +/- 0.01 inches or 1013.2
+/- 0.3 mm) (Figure 502).
G. Control Column Power Force Test
SUBTASK 27-31-00-730-009
(1) Do the control column force test (with hydraulics unpressurized):
(a) Move the captain’s control column slowly aft and hold at the elevator trailing edge up
position of 3.59 - 3.69 inches (91.2 - 93.7 mm) (Figure 523).
1) Use the force gauge, COM-1557 to make sure the force to hold the control column is
between 11 - 53 pounds (107 - 236 newtons) (Figure 514).
2) Center the control column.
(b) Move the captain’s control column slowly forward and hold at the elevator trailing edge
down position of 3.64 - 3.74 inches (92.5 - 95.0 mm) (Figure 523).
1) Use the force gauge, COM-1557 to make sure the force to hold the control column is
between 19 - 63 pounds (160 - 280 newtons) (Figure 514).

(2) Do the control column force test (with hydraulics pressurized):
WARNING: KEEP PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT AWAY FROM THE FLIGHT CONTROL
SURFACES. THE AILERONS, ELEVATORS, RUDDER, FLAPS, SLATS, SPOILERS,
STABILIZER AND NOSE GEAR CAN MOVE SUDDENLY WHEN YOU SUPPLY
HYDRAULIC POWER. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO
EQUIPMENT.
(a) Pressurize elevator hydraulic systems A and B. To pressurize them, do this task: Elevator
Hydraulic System A and B - Pressurization, TASK 27-31-00-800-801.
(b) Move the captain’s control column lightly forward and aft to put the system in the neutral
position.

1) Attach "DO-NOT-MOVE" tags on the control columns.
(c) Attach approximately 36 inches (900 mm) of masking tape to the tailcone, forward of the
right elevator index plate (Figure 523).
NOTE: Make sure there are approximately 18 inches (450 mm) of masking tape above the
index plate and approximately 18 inches (450 mm) of masking tape below the
index plate.
(d) Make a mark of the neutral position of the elevator trailing edge on the masking tape.
1) Use this mark of the neutral position as reference.
