D. Prepare for the Removal

WARNING: MAKE SURE THE DOWNLOCK PINS ARE INSTALLED ON ALL THE LANDING GEARS.
WITHOUT THE DOWNLOCK PINS, THE LANDING GEARS COULD RETRACT AND
CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1) If the downlock pins are not installed on all the landing gears, do this task: Landing Gear
Downlock Pins Installation, TASK 32-00-01-480-801.

(2) Do this task: Remove Pressure from the Aileron Hydraulic Systems A and B,
TASK 27-11-00-860-801.

(3) With a 8-9 Inch adjustable stainless steel clamp, STD-1112, install the straightedge, SPL-1671
across the top ends of the two control wheels to keep the control wheels in the neutral position.

(4) Make sure the aileron trim switches are at the zero trim position.
NOTE: The aileron trim switches are installed on the aft electronic control panel, P8, in the
flight compartment.

(5) Install the rig pin A/S-15, from the rig pin kit, SPL-1585, in the aileron trim mechanism
(Figure 401).

(6) Install the rig pin A/S-4, from the rig pin kit, SPL-1585, in the aileron bus drum (Figure 401).

(7) Above the left main wheel well, do this task: Passenger Seat Removal, TASK 25-22-00-000-801.

(9) Above the left main wheel well, do this task: Passenger Cabin Floor Panel Removal,

E. Aileron Feel and Centering Unit Removal
SUBTASK 27-11-81-020-003
(1) Remove the centering unit [11] (Figure 402):
(a) Remove the pin [32], nuts [61], washers [33], nuts [34], washers [35], bushings [36],
washers [37], and bolt assemblies [27] from the reaction links [29]. Discard the pin [32].
(b) Remove the nut [41], washer [42], washer [44] and bolt [45] to disconnect the autopilot
actuator rod [43] from the centering unit [11].
(c) Remove the bolt [46] and washer [39] to remove the aileron position sensor rod [38] from
the centering unit [11].
(d) Remove the pin [25], nuts [24], washers [23], bushings [21], washers [20], and bolts [19] to
disconnect the pogos [22] from the lever assemblies [26]. Discard the pin [25].
(e) Disconnect the centering unit [11] from the airplane structure;
1) Remove the nut [16], washer [17], washers [18], bushing [12], washer [13], and bolt [14].
2) Remove the nuts [16], washers [17], washers [31], bushings [28], washers [13] and bolts
[14].
(f) Remove the aileron control quadrant [47] from the shaft;
1) Remove the cable AA [2] and cable AB [1] from the aileron control quadrant [47]:
a) Disconnect the left cable AA [2] and cable AB [1] at the turnbuckles;
b) Remove the nuts [59], washers [58], and bolts [57] to remove retaining plates [60]
from the aileron control quadrant [47];
c) Remove the cable AA [2] and cable AB [1] from the aileron control quadrant [47];

d) Secure the disconnected cable AA [2] and cable AB [1] with clamps;
e) Attach identification tags to the disconnected cables for easier assembly.
2) Remove the nuts [51], washers [49], and bolts [48] to disconnect the aileron control
quadrant [47] from the shaft.
3) Remove the aileron control quadrant [47] from the shaft.
(g) Remove the nuts [56], washers [55], washers [53] and bolts [52] to disconnect the bearing
housing [54] from the pressure deck.
(h) Carefully lower and remove the centering unit [11].
