(3) Remove the nut [46], washers [45], and bolt [44] to disconnect the bonding jumper [47] from the
vertical fin at hinge 9 (Figure 402).

(4) Disconnect the control rod of the rudder position transmitter from the vertical fin:
(a) Remove the bolt [23], washer [24], and washer [25].
(b) Disconnect the control rod.

CAUTION: REMOVE THE CONTROL ROD FROM THE PCU BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT THE PCU
FROM THE RUDDER. IF YOU DO NOT REMOVE THE CONTROL ROD FIRST, DAMAGE
TO THE CONTROL ROD CAN OCCUR DURING THE CHECK.
(5) Do this step to disconnect the rudder main power control unit (PCU) from the RUDDER [1]:
GUN 001-005, 155-157, 201-999 PRE SB 737-27-1253
(a) Disconnect and remove the control rod (or rods) from the main PCU
(SeeFigure 27-21-91-990-806-001).
GUN 006-099, 101-122; GUN 001-005, 155-157, 201-999 POST SB 737-27-1253
(b) Disconnect and remove the control rod (or rods) from the main PCU
(SeeFigure 27-21-91-990-804-002).

(c) Remove nut [15], washer [14], nut [13], washer [12], bushing [11], bolt [10], and bolt [9].

(6) Do this step to disconnect the rudder standby power control unit (PCU) from the RUDDER [1]:
(a) Remove nut [29], washer [28], bushing [50], washer [27], and bolt [26].

(7) Move the RUDDER [1] to the neutral position.

WARNING: MAKE SURE THE CRANE WILL HOLD THE RUDDER IN A STABLE POSITION WHEN
YOU REMOVE THE HINGE BOLTS. ACCIDENTAL RUDDER MOVEMENT WHEN YOU
DISCONNECT IT FROM THE AIRPLANE CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR
DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(8) Remove the hinge bolts from the hinges:
(a) At hinges 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9, remove the pin [35], nuts [34], washers [33], bushings [32],
washers [31], and bolts [30] from the hinges. Discard the pin [35].

(b) At hinge 2, remove the pin [2], nut [3], washer [4], spacer [5], bushing [6], washer [7], and
bolt [8] from the hinge. Discard the pin [2].
(c) At hinge 3, remove the pin [22], nut [21], washer [20], bushing [19], bushing [18], washer
[17], and bolt [16] from the hinge. Discard the pin [22].
(d) At hinge 7, remove the pin [43], nut [42], washer [41], washer [39], bushing [38], washer
[37], and bolt [36] from the hinge. Discard the pin [43].

CAUTION: YOU MUST MOVE THE RUDDER UP BEFORE YOU MOVE IT BACK FROM THE
VERTICAL FIN. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE RUDDER.
(9) Do these steps to remove the RUDDER [1]:
(a) Move the RUDDER [1] up and aft from the vertical fin and lower to the ground.
