NOTE: One full turn of the bushing [104] is equal to 0.02 inch (0.5 mm) at the elevator tab
trailing edge.
(b) Loosen the nuts [109] that attach the tab pushrods [110] to the elevator tab [102].
(c) Make sure that you can easily turn the bolts [106] by hand.
1) If it is necessary, adjust the bushing [104] on the tab pushrods [110].
CAUTION: IF THE NUTS [109] ARE NOT TIGHTENED CORRECTLY, THEN THE PUSHRODS
CAN BECOME DISCONNECTED AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELEVATOR AND
STABILIZER.
(d) Tighten the nuts [109] to 30 - 50 pound-inches (3.4 - 5.7 newton-meters) and install pins
[111].
NOTE: If you loosened or removed the nuts [109], they need to be replaced and not reinstalled.
Using new nuts will ensure that they have the required run-on torque of
3.5 in-lb (0.4 Nm).
NOTE: Make sure the nut [109] stays tightened to 30 - 50 pound-inches (3.4-5.7 newtonmeters)
after alignment of the nut [109] and bolt [106] cotter pin hole.
(e) Tighten the checknuts [103] and checknuts [105] on the tab pushrods [110] to 150 - 200
pound-inches (17.0 - 22.6 newton-meters).

(a) Turn the bushing [104] to adjust the length of the tab pushrods [110].
NOTE: One full turn of the bushing [104] is equal to 0.02 inch (0.5 mm) at the elevator tab
trailing edge.
(b) Loosen the nuts [109] that attach the tab pushrods [110] to the elevator tab [102].
(c) Remove the pins [111] from in front of the head of the bolts [106].
(d) Move the rectangle bolt heads out of the anti-rotation bolt bosses and make sure that you
can easily turn the bolts [106] by hand.
1) If it is necessary, adjust the bushing [104] on the tab pushrods [110].
CAUTION: IF THE NUTS [109] ARE NOT TIGHTENED CORRECTLY, THEN THE PUSHRODS
CAN BECOME DISCONNECTED AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELEVATOR AND
STABILIZER.
(e) Tighten the nuts [109] to 70 - 80 pound-inches (7.9 - 9.0 newton-meters) and install pins
[111].
NOTE: If you loosened or removed the nuts [109], they need to be replaced and not reinstalled.
Using new nuts will ensure that they have the required run-on torque of
3.5 in-lb (0.4 Nm).
(f) Tighten the checknuts [103] and checknuts [105] on the tab pushrods [110] to 150 - 200
pound-inches (17.0 - 22.6 newton-meters).
(g) Install lockwire on the checknut [103] and between the bushing [104] and the checknut
[105].

(9) Make sure the gap between the elevator tab trailing edge and the fixture, SPL-1686 (dimension
X) is 0.36 +/- 0.01 inch (9.1 +/- 0.3 mm).

(10) Do a check of the thread engagement of the tab pushrod ends and bushings [104]:
(a) Make sure the end of the bushing [104] covers the inspection hole on each tab pushrod
[110].
(b) Make sure the inspection hole of each tab pushrod end bearing is not shown.
(c) If the thread engagement is not correct, you must do the coarse adjustment again.

(11) Verify that the forward and aft tab rod end bearings are aligned in the correct alignment :

(a) Rotate each tab rod counterclockwise (when facing forward) until contact is made between
the tab rod end and surrounding structure.
1) This initial contact point is the start of the measurement of the rod end bearing
alignment.

(b) Rotate each tab rod clockwise (when facing forward) until contact is made between the tab
rod end and surrounding structure.
1) Measure the distance travelled between the contact points as the tab rod was rotated
clockwise from contact point to contact point.
(c) There should be a minimum of 0.040 inch (1.02 millimeters) travel from contact point to
contact point.
1) If there is less than 0.040 inch (1.02 millimeters) of travel from contact point to contact
