(5) Install the rig pin R-5 from rig pin kit, SPL-1585 in the rudder feel and centering unit (Figure 401).
F. Main Rudder PCU Removal

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU REMOVE THE VERNIER CONTROL ROD [8] BEFORE YOU
REMOVE THE MAIN RUDDER . FAILURE TO REMOVE THE VERNIER CONTROL ROD
[8] FIRST CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE VERNIER CONTROL ROD [8].
(1) Remove the vernier control rod [8]:
(a) Remove the nuts [7], washers [6], washers [5], and bolt assemblies [4] to disconnect the
vernier control rod [8] from the external summing lever [3] and rudder actuator input crank
[10].
(b) Remove the vernier control rod [8] from the airplane.

(2) Install the equipment, SPL-1732 (Figure 402):
(a) Install the bracket assembly [56] with screws [51] and washers [52] to the vertical fin.
1) Tighten the screws [51] to 18-25 pound-inches (2.0-2.8 newton-meters).
(b) Install the beam assembly [55] with screws [53] and washers [54] to the main rudder pcu
installation [1].
1) Tighten the screw [53] to 45-60 pound-inches (5.0-6.8 newton-meters).
(c) Install the arm assembly [58] to the bracket assembly [56].

(3) Remove the nut [32], washer [31], nut [30], washer [29], and bolt assembly [28] to disconnect the
rod assembly [2] from the rudder.

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU HOLD THE MAIN RUDDER DURING THE REMOVAL OF THE
FORWARD MANIFOLD [11]. THE PCU CAN FALL. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE
MAIN RUDDER .
(4) Remove the nut [27], washer [26], nut [25], washer [24], washer [34], bushing [23], and bolt
assembly [22] to disconnect the forward manifold [11] from vertical fin structure.

(5) Install the lock, SPL-1727 to hold the rudder in its position.

(6) Disconnect the electrical connectors [9] from the main rudder pcu installation [1].

(7) Disconnect the hydraulic lines from the main rudder pcu installation [1].
(a) Put a 1 U.S.-gal (3.81 l) oil resistant container, STD-203container below the hydraulic
connections.
(b) Disconnect the return line hydraulic system A [12] from the main rudder pcu installation [1].
