11. Rudder Travel Test
A. General
(1) Use this test to make sure the rudder operates correctly.

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF ALL CONTROL
SURFACES BEFORE YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. AILERONS, RUDDER,
ELEVATORS, FLAPS, SPOILERS, SLATS, AND THRUST REVERSERS CAN MOVE
QUICKLY WHEN YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO
PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1) Pressurize the rudder hydraulic systems A and B, do this task: Rudder Hydraulic System A, B,
or Standby Pressurization, TASK 27-21-00-800-801.

(2) Do the test of the rudder travel test:
(a) Set the FLT CONTROL A switch to the ON position and FLT CONTROL B switch to the OFF
position.
(b) Set the captain’s and first officer’s rudder pedal adjustment cranks to the middle position.

(c) Make sure the rudder pedals are in the neutral position.
(d) Push and hold captain’s left pedal until it touches the forward quadrant stop.
1) Measure the rudder travel.
2) Make sure that the dimension is 26.97 in. (685.0 mm) ±0.91 in. (23.1 mm) (29.00 +/-
1.00 degrees) rudder trailing edge left.
3) Release the captain’s left pedal.
(e) Push and hold the captain’s right pedal until it touches the forward quadrant stop.
1) Measure the rudder travel.
2) Make sure that the dimension is 26.97 in. (685.0 mm) ±0.91 in. (23.1 mm) (29.00 +/-
1.00 degrees) rudder trailing edge right.
3) Release the captain’s right pedal.
(f) Set the FLT CONTROL B switch to the ON position and FLT CONTROL A switch to the OFF
position.

2) Make sure that the dimension is 26.97 in. (685.0 mm) ±0.91 in. (23.1 mm) (29.00 +/-
1.00 degrees) rudder trailing edge left.
3) Release the captain’s left pedal.
(h) Push and hold the captain’s right pedal until it touches the forward quadrant stop.
1) Measure the rudder travel.
2) Make sure that the dimension is 26.97 in. (685.0 mm) ±0.91 in. (23.1 mm) (29.00 +/-
1.00 degrees) rudder trailing edge right.
3) Release the captain’s right pedal.
(i) Set the FLT CONTROL B switch to the STBY position.
(j) Push and hold captain’s left pedal until it touches the forward quadrant stop.
1) Measure the rudder travel.
2) Make sure that the dimension is 26.97 in. (685.0 mm) ±0.91 in. (23.1 mm) (29.00 +/-
1.00 degrees) rudder trailing edge left.
3) Release the captain’s left pedal.
(k) Push and hold the captain’s right pedal until it touches the forward quadrant stop.
1) Measure the rudder travel.
2) Make sure that the dimension is 26.97 in. (685.0 mm) ±0.91 in. (23.1 mm) (29.00 +/-
1.00 degrees) rudder trailing edge right.
3) Release the captain’s right pedal.

(3) Do this task: Put the Rudder Hydraulic systems A, B, and Standby Back to the Condition
Before the Pressurization, TASK 27-21-00-840-801.
