1) Install the bolts [19], washers [20] (under the bolt), washers [21] (under the nut), and
nuts [22].
2) Install the bolts [14], washers [15] (under the bolt), washers [16] (under the nut), and
nuts [17].
(d) Install the bolts [4], washers [5], and nuts [6] to attach the upper bearing housing [2] and
plate [3] to the airplane structure.

(3) Examine the feel output rod [9] for damage.
NOTE: The feel output rod has two load paths.

(4) Connect the feel and centering unit crank [8] to the rudder feel output rod [8]:
(a) Install the bolt assembly [28], bushing [29], washer [30], washer [31], and nut [32].
1) Tighten the nut [32] to 45-60 pound-inches (5.1-6.8 newton-meters).
CAUTION: DO NOT TRY TO TIGHTEN THE NUT [32] AGAIN AFTER YOU TIGHTEN THE NUT
[33], YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(b) Install the nut [33].
1) Tighten the nut [33] to 12-15 pound-inches (1.3-1.7 newton-meters).

(5) Install the rig pin R-5 of the rig pin kit, SPL-1585 from the rudder feel and centering unit [7].

(6) Connect the rudder trim actuator [1] to the rudder feel and centering unit [7]:
(a) Install the bolt assembly [23], washer [24], and nut [25].
1) Tighten the nut [25] to 85-100 pound-inches (9.6-11.3 newton-meters).
CAUTION: DO NOT TRY TO TIGHTEN THE NUT [25] AGAIN AFTER YOU TIGHTEN THE NUT
[27], YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(b) Install the washer [26] and nut [27].
(c) Tighten the nut [27] to 30-35 pound-inches (3.9-4.0 newton-meters).

(7) Remove the rig pins R-3 or R-4 of the rig pin kit, SPL-1585 from the rudder forward quadrants.

(8) Remove the rig pin R-5 of the rig pin kit, SPL-1585 from the rudder feel and centering unit.
F. Rudder Feel and Centering Unit Test

(1) Disconnect the steering for the nose landing gear from the rudder system
NOTE: It is not necessary to disconnect the steering if the airplane is on jacks and the nose
landing gear is fully extended.

(a) Operate the rudder pedals through their full travel range three times.
(b) Make sure the rudder trim indicator shows zero units of trim.
(c) Push the captain’s left rudder pedal forward approximately 0.5 inch and release it.
1) Make sure each side of the rudder trailing edge aligns with the tab on the rudder index
plate.
(d) Push the captain’s right rudder pedal forward approximately 0.5 inch and release it.
1) Make sure each side of the rudder trailing edge aligns with the tab on the rudder index
plate.

(4) Connect the steering for the nose landing gear to the rudder system if it disconnects.
