4) Tighten the checknut [57] 195 - 235 inch-pounds
(22.0 - 26.6 newton-meters) (Figure 506).
NOTE: Recheck the elevator trailing edge to index plate dimension after torquing the
checknut. The tightening of the checknut can cause the dimension to change.
5) Loosen the checknut [57] on the secondary input rod.
6) Rotate the secondary input rod tube until the upper attach bolt [52] can be freely
installed through the clevis and the PCU crank arm.
7) Install the bolt [52], washer [53], washer [54], and nut [55].
8) Tighten the nut [55].
9) Tighten the checknut [57] 195 - 235 inch-pounds
(22.0 - 26.6 newton-meters).
NOTE: Recheck the elevator trailing edge to index plate dimension after torquing the

10) Install lockwire on the checknuts of the input rods.
NOTE: Install lockwire from the checknut to the input rod tube, and then to the small
hole in the upper clevis.
11) If the right elevator PCU input rods have been adjusted, set the FLT CONTROL B switch
to the off position.
12) If the left elevator PCU input rods have been adjusted, set the FLT CONTROL A swich to
the off position.

(2) Adjust the input rods for the elevator PCU (Figure 506):
NOTE: This procedure adjusts both the right and left elevator PCU input rods.
(a) If adjusting the right elevator PCU:
1) Set the FLT CONTROL A switch to the off position and FLT CONTROL B switch to the on
position.
(b) If adjusting the left elevator PCU:
1) Set the FLT CONTROL B switch to the off position and FLT CONTROL A switch to the on
position.
(c) Measure the distance from the upper trailing edge surface of the right elevator to the
neutral index mark of the index plate (Figure 505).
(d) If the distance is greater than 0.4 inch (10 mm), then do this coarse adjustment of the
elevator PCU input rods:

1) Set the FLT CONTROL B switch to the OFF position.
2) Remove the nut [55], washer [54], washer [53], and bolt [52] to disconnect the primary
input rod [59] from the quadrant crank.
3) Remove the nut [55], washer [54], washer [53], and bolt [52] to disconnect the
secondary input rod [58] from the quadrant crank.
4) Loosen the checknut [57] on the primary input rod [59].
5) Turn the input rod end one half of one turn relative to the sleeve [56].
NOTE: A half turn of the sleeve moves the elevator trailing edge 0.20 inch (5.1 mm). A
half turn of the sleeve [56] and the input rod end together moves the elevator
trailing edge 0.18 inch (4.6 mm).
6) Turn the sleeve [56] and the input rod end together one half of one turn
7) Make sure the distance of the right elevator trailing edge is less than 0.4 inch (10 mm)
from the index plate (Figure 505).
8) Keep number of threads that you can see in the two parts are approximately the same.
9) Adjust the clevis until you can freely install the bolt [52].
10) Install the bolt [52], washer [53], washer [54], and nut [55] to connect the primary input
rod [59] to the quadrant crank (Figure 506).
11) Set the FLT CONTROL B switch to the ON position.
(e) If the distance is less than 0.4 inch (10 mm) but greater than 0.06 inch (1.5 mm) (Figure 505),
then do this fine adjustment of the elevator PCU input rods (Figure 506):
1) If it is not disconnected, remove the nut [55], washer [54], washer [53], and bolt [52] to
disconnect the secondary input rod [58] from the quadrant crank.
2) Loosen the checknut [57] on the secondary input rod [59].
3) Turn the input rod end half turn relative to the sleeve [56].
4) Make sure the distance of the right elevator trailing edge is less than 0.06 inch (1.5
millimeters) from the index plate (Figure 505).
5) Make sure that the number of threads that you can see in the two parts are
approximately the same.
6) Install the bolt [52], washer [53], washer [54], and nut [55] to connect the secondary
input rod [58] to the quadrant crank (Figure 506).
a) Tighten the checknuts [57] on the two input rods to 350 - 400 pound-inches (39.6 -
45.2 newton-meters).
7) Install the lockwire, G01912 on the checknuts [57].
8) If the right elevator PCU input rods have been adjusted, set the FLT CONTROL B switch
to the off position.
9) If the left elevator PCU input rods have been adjusted, set the FLT CONTROL A swich to
