WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF ALL CONTROL
SURFACES BEFORE YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. AILERONS, RUDDER,
ELEVATORS, FLAPS, SPOILERS, LANDING GEAR, AND THRUST REVERSERS CAN
MOVE QUICKLY WHEN YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY
TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(4) Pressurize the standby rudder hydraulic system. To pressurize it, do this task: Rudder
Hydraulic System A, B, or Standby Pressurization, TASK 27-21-00-800-801.

(5) Move the rudder pedals through ten cycles to flush and bleed the standby rudder PCU.

(6) Set the FLT CONTROL A and B switches to the ON position.

(7) Make sure the rudder trim indicator is in the neutral position. (Figure 501)

(8) Make sure you can install and remove the rig pin R-5 freely with no movement of the rudder feel
and centering unit output crank.(Figure 502)
F. Control Rod of the Standby Rudder PCU Adjustment
SUBTASK 27-21-00-710-072-002
(1) Adjust the control rod [34] of the standby rudder PCU:
(a) Set FLT CONTROL A and B switches to the STBY RUD position.
(b) Set the YAW DAMPER switch on the P5-3 overhead panel to the ON position.
1) Make sure the YAW DAMPER light goes out after approximately 2 seconds.
(c) Move the control wheel approximately 30 degrees clockwise.
1) Make sure the rudder moves to the right.
(d) Release the control wheel.
(e) Do these steps to initiate a zero yaw damper command output from the stall Management
Yaw Damper No. 2 (SMYD No. 2), M1748:
NOTE: The SMYD No. 2 is installed on the E3-2 electrical equipment rack.
1) Push and release the ON/OFF button on the front BITE display of the SMYD No. 2.
2) Push and release the up arrow or down arrow button until the GROUND TEST shows on
the display.
3) Push the YES button to get access to the ground test option.
4) Push and release the up arrow or down arrow button until the SERVO TEST? shows on
the display.
5) Push the YES button to start the servo test.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE
RUDDER. THE RUDDER CAN MOVE QUICKLY WHEN YOU PUSH THE
"YES" BUTTON ON THE SMYD NO. 2. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO
PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
6) Push the YES button when the RUDDER CLEARED? shows on the display.
7) Push the YES button when the FLT CTRL A STBY? shows on the display.

8) Push the YES button when the FLT CTRL B STBY? shows on the display.
9) Push the YES button when YAW DMPR ENGAGED? shows on the display.
10) Push the YES button when the ZERO COMMAND? shows on the display.
NOTE: A yaw damper command value and LVDT position will show for 10 seconds
each, then the END ZERO COMMAND? will show on the display. You can push
the NO button to show these values again.

(2) Do this adjustment to the standby rudder PCU control rod [34] (Figure 502):
(a) Loosen the clamp nut [31] on the control rod [34] until you can rotate the sleeve [32].
(b) Rotate the sleeve [32] until the rudder trailing edge is within the center of the index plate.
NOTE: One full rotation of the sleeve [32] will move the rudder trailing edge 0.18 degree
(0.18 inch). Rotate the sleeve [32] clockwise (looking aft) will move the rudder
trailing edge left. Rotate the sleeve [32] counter-clockwise (looking aft) will move
the rudder trailing edge right.
(c) Tighten the clamp nut [31] on the control rod [34].
NOTE: Do not torque the clamp nut [31] at this time.
(d) Make sure that the rudder trailing edge is still within the center of the index plate.
(e) Tighten the clamp nut [31] on the control rod [34] to 100 in-lb (11.3 Nm) -- 150 in-lb
(16.9 Nm).

(3) Do this adjustment to the standby rudder PCU control rod [34](Figure 502):
