(2) Put the Rudder Hydraulic Systems A, B, and Standby Back to the Condition Before the
Pressurization
(3) Remove Pressure from the Rudder Hydraulic Systems A, B and Standby
(4) Put the Rudder Hydraulic Systems A, B, and Standby Back to Condition Before the Pressure
Removal.
B. Hydraulic systems A, B, and standby must have pressure removed before maintenance is done on
the rudder control system. This is to prevent injury to persons because of accidental operation of the
control system while you do maintenance. You must be careful to put maintenance stands and
equipment away from control surface travel.
C. Electric pump 1 pressurizes the hydraulic system B and electric pump 2 pressurizes the hydraulic
system A. Electric pump 1 heat exchanger is installed in the fuel tank 2. Electric pump 2 heat
exchanger is installed in the fuel tank 1.
D. This procedure operates the electric hydraulic system A or B pumps to pressurize the hydraulic
systems A and B. Pressurization of the hydraulic systems with the engine-driven hydraulic pumps is
not included in this procedure.

SUBTASK 27-21-00-860-002
CAUTION: DO NOT OPERATE THE SYSTEM A OR B HYDRAULIC PUMPS FOR MORE THAN TWO
MINUTES WITHOUT FUEL IN THE FUEL TANKS. THE NO. 1 (FOR SYSTEM A) AND NO.
2 (FOR SYSTEM B) FUEL TANKS MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF 250 GALLONS (1675
POUNDS/760 KILOGRAMS) OF FUEL IN THEM. IF THERE IS NOT SUFFICIENT FUEL IN
THE FUEL TANKS, THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS WILL BECOME TOO HOT.
(2) Make sure the No. 1 and No. 2 fuel tanks each have 250 gallons (1675 pounds/760 kilograms) of
fuel in them.
SUBTASK 27-21-00-210-001
(3) Make sure the hydraulic reservoirs are full. To fill the reservoirs, do this task: Hydraulic
Reservoir Servicing, TASK 12-12-00-610-801.
SUBTASK 27-21-00-860-065
(4) Make sure that these circuit breakers are closed:

(5) Set the parking brake.
SUBTASK 27-21-00-480-001
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND LOCKS ARE INSTALLED IN ALL OF THE LANDING
GEAR BEFORE YOU PRESSURIZE THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS. WITHOUT THE
GROUND LOCKS, THE LANDING GEAR CAN RETRACT AND CAUSE INJURIES TO
PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(6) Install the ground lock assemblies in the nose gear. To install them, do this task: Landing Gear
Downlock Pins Installation, TASK 32-00-01-480-801.
SUBTASK 27-21-00-860-005
WARNING: KEEP PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT CLEAR OF THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES.
THESE COMPONENTS CAN MOVE SUDDENLY WHEN YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC
POWER. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(7) Pressurize the rudder hydraulic system A, B or Standby (Figure 201):
(a) Set the ELEC 2, HYD PUMPS A or ELEC 1, HYD PUMPS B switch on the forward overhead
panel to the ON position.
NOTE: Intermittent system A or B electric pump operation must be kept to a limit of five
starts in a 5 minutes period. After the fifth start, operate the pump for more than 5
minutes or turn the pump off for a minimum of 5 minutes.
(b) For the hydraulic system A pressurization, set the FLT CONTROL A switch on the forward
overhead panel to the ON position.
(c) For the hydraulic system B pressurization, set the FLT CONTROL B switch on the forward
overhead panel to the ON position.
(d) For the standby hydraulic system, set the FLT CONTROL A or B switch on the forward
overhead panel to the STDBY RUD position.
