 WARNING: DO NOT OPERATE WEATHER RADAR WHILE THE AIRPLANE IS BEING
_______ REFUELED OR DEFUELED AND DO NOT OPERATE IN ANY RADIATION MODE WHILE A FUELING OPERATION IS BEING CONDUCTED WITHIN 200 FEET OF THE ANTENNA OR AN EXPLOSION MAY OCCUR.
 DO NOT OPERATE THE WEATHER RADAR IN A HANGAR OR OTHER ENCLOSURE. PERSONNEL MUST NOT ENTER AN AREA CLOSER THAN 50 FEET OF A RADIATING ANTENNA OR INJURY TO PERSONNEL MAY OCCUR.
 CAUTION: WHEN AN LRU FAILURE MESSAGE SHOWS, STOP THE WEATHER RADAR
_______ SYSTEM TEST. IF YOU DO NOT STOP THE WEATHER RADAR, THE RESULT WILL BE DAMAGE TO THE DEFECTIVE LRU OR OTHER SYSTEM COMPONENTS.
 (1)  Weather radar operation description consists of: B. Normal Operation, C. Functional Description, D. System Self-Test E. System Shutdown Procedures. Normal operations describes normal startup operations of the weather radar system. The functional description is a more in depth description of the system components and their interface. Two self-test procedures are described using the weather radar system test switch and one using the control display unit and central maintenance computer. The system shutdown procedures are performed when weather radar operations are completed.
 B. Normal Operation
 (1)  Prior to operation perform the following:
 (a)  
Check that the following system circuit breakers are closed: 1) WEATHER RADAR - P7 Panel 2) EFIS and EICAS - P7 Panel 3) IRS - P6 Panel 4) CMC - P180, P414 and P415 Panels

 (b)  
Check left and right inertial reference systems are in NAV (navigate) mode (AMM 34-21-00).

 (c)  
Check that the following interface systems are operational: 1) Flight Management Computer System (FMCS)

 2) Integrated Display System (IDS)

 (d)  
AIRPLANES WITH PREDICTIVE WINDSHEAR ACTIVE; Make sure that the following interface systems on airplanes with predictive windshear are operational: 1) Modular Avionics Warning Electronics Assembly 2) EFIS/EICAS Interface Unit 3) Air Data System 4) Radio Altimeter System 5) Traffic Alert & Collision Avoidance System 6) Ground Proximity Warning System

Position switches and controls on weather radar control panel as
 follows:


 (a)  
GAIN control - AUTO


 (b)  
TILT mode select - MAN


 (c)  
TILT control - 0


 (d)  
SYS - L


 (e)
Mode selector - WX, WX/TURB, or MAP
Position captain's IRS source select switch to L.
Position first officer's IRS source select switch to R.
Position the following switches and controls on the captain's and
 first officer's EFIS control panel to obtain a weather radar display
 on the NDs.


 (a)  
WXR switch/indicator - on


 (b)  
Mode selector - APP, VOR, MAP or CTR MAP


 (c)  
Range selector - 80


 (d)  
L ADF/VOR - OFF


 (e)
R ADF/VOR - OFF
Position the captain's and first officer's ND brightness controls to
 obtain a weather display on the respective NDs.

 

 NOTE:____The inner knob adjusts radar returns as required. The outer knob adjusts radar, ND symbols and range marks.
The R/T unit will generate the RF pulses for transmission and send them to the antenna through the waveguide. The reflected RF is returned to the R/T for processing.
