 10. ILS Interfacing Systems

 A.  The ILS interfaces with the following systems:
 (1)  
Flight Interphone System (Ref 23-51-00)

 (2)  
Integrated Display System (Ref 31-61-00)

 (3)  
Standby Attitude/ILS System (Ref 34-24-00)

 (4)  
Ground Proximity Warning System (Ref 34-46-00)

 (5)  
Flight Management Computer System (Ref 34-61-00)

 (6)  
Central Maintenance Computer System (AMM 45-10-00/001)


 B.  Flight Interphone System
 (1)  
The component of the flight interphone system that interfaces with the ILS is the audio control panel.

 (2)  
Audio control panel

 (a)  
Three audio control panels are used to select and control the broadcast of ILS audio from the ILS receivers when the APP switch is turned on and the channel selector is placed in the L, R, or C position.

 (b)  
The left, right, and center audio control panels are located on the aft electronics control panel (P8).

 


 C.  Integrated Display System (IDS)
 (1)
Components of the IDS that interface with the ILS are the:

 (a)  
EFIS control panel

 (b)  
EFIS/EICAS interface unit

 (c)  
Primary flight display

 (d)  
Navigation display

 (e)  
EICAS displays

 (f)  
EICAS display select panel

 

 (2)  
Electronic flight instrument system (EFIS) control panel

 (a)  
The EFIS control panel mode select switch is used to select ILS data for display on the ND when placed in the APP position. The CTR pushbutton is used to change from the expanded display (default) to the full compass rose display on the ND.

 (b)  
The captain's and first officer's EFIS control panels are located on the left and right sides of the pilots' lightshield, respectively.

 (3)  
EFIS/EICAS interface unit (EIU)

 (a)  
Three EIU's receive digital data from each ILS receiver and discretes from each VOR/LOC antenna switch and G/S antenna coaxial relay. They process this information to create ILS displays on the PFD's and ND's, and ILS caution and status messages on the EICAS displays. The EIU's also provide ILS data to the CMC during system self-test.

 (b)  
The left, right and center EIU's are located in the E1 electronics equipment rack in the main equipment center. They are located on the No. 6 shelf.

 

 (4)  
Primary flight display (PFD)

 (a)  
The PFD is a cathode ray tube (CRT) that provides displays for several electronic systems. The following paragraphs describe the displays for the ILS mode.

 (b)  
The PFD displays the ILS tuned frequency or ground station identification in an alphanumeric readout.

 (c)  
Lateral and vertical deviation from the approach path along the runway centerline is displayed by the LOC and G/S deviation scales and pointers.

 (d)  
If a no computed data (NCD) condition exists in either channel, the affected deviation pointer and scale is removed from the display. If an invalid data condition exists in either channel, the affected deviation scale and pointer are removed and a LOC or G/S flag is displayed.

 (e)  
The captain's PFD is located on the captain's instrument panel (P1). The first officer's PFD is located on the first officer's instrument panel (P3).

 

 (5)  
Navigation display (ND)

 (a)  
The ND is a CRT that provides displays for several electronic systems. The following paragraphs describe the displays for the ILS mode.

 (b)  
The ND displays the ILS tuned frequency or ground station identifier and the source of the ILS data in alphanumeric readouts.

 (c)  
Lateral deviation from the approach path along the runway centerline is displayed by the LOC deviation scale and pointer. Vertical deviation from the approach path is displayed by the G/S deviation scale and pointer.
