(b)
The status lights indicate system status for the TEST switch initiated self-test only. A green light indicates a go condition and the red light(s) a no-go condition.
(c)
The red IND light is not used since the usual radio altimeter height indicator unit is replaced with display of radio altitude at the captain's and first officer's primary flight displays.
(3)
A maintenance test connector on the front panel is used to connect a test set for system checks, radio altitude fixed trip checks, and check of radio altitudes used by the GPWS, AFS, and other systems on the airplane.
(4)
The R/T front panel LCD screen and manual test switch operate as follows:
(a)
The TEST switch initiates a self-test which checks the R/T circuits and antennas.
(b)
When the front panel TEST switch is pushed and released, the TEST IN PROGRESS display is shown on the LCD screen and the transceiver goes through a self-test. The test continues for approximately 5 seconds. The TEST COMPLETE NO FAILURES display is shown for a test/pass condition. The TEST COMPLETE FAILURES display is shown for a test/fail condition. Pushing and releasing the RETURN switch shows the P/N and S/W display. Pushing and releasing the WHY switch shows the failures if a test fail condition has occurred.
(c)
The RS 232 connector on the lower portion of the front panel is used to connect a test set for system checks. The memory card slot of the front panel accepts a 20 MBytes memory module to update R/T memory or record data. The RS 232 connector and the memory card slot are not for use by line maintenance personel.
B. Antennas
(1)
Each R/T has its own transmit antenna and receive antenna. They are identical microstrip units with a characteristic impedance of 50 ohms.
