747-400 MAINTENANCE MANUAL
(b) Initiate the test through the CMC:
1) See the ground test in the instrument landing system adjustment/test (Ref 34-31-00/501).
(5) Self-test results
(a) The receiver outputs ILS test information used to produce the following displays on the PFDs and NDs: 1) An invalid data display occurs for approximately 3 seconds 2) An NCD display occurs for approximately 2 seconds 3) G/S and LOC pointers move to one dot up and one dot left
respectively, for approximately 3 seconds 4) A transition period occurs for approximately 2 seconds 5) G/S and LOC pointers move to one dot down and one dot right
respectively, for remainder of the test.
(b) The ILS test information is also used to produce the following displays on the standby attitude/ILS indicator: 1) An invalid data display occurs for approximately 3 seconds 2) An NCD display occurs for approximately 2 seconds 3) G/P and LAT pointers move to one dot up and one dot left
respectively, for approximately 3 seconds 4) A transition period occurs for approximately 2 seconds 5) G/P and LAT pointers move to one dot down and one dot right
respectively, for remainder of the test.
(c)
If the test was initiated using a TEST button on the front panel of the ILS receiver, the front panel will display the following test sequence: 1) The LCD screen shows "ILS TEST IN PROGRESS". 2) The LCD screen shows "ILS TEST COMPLETE NO FAILURES" at the
end of the test.
(d)
If the self-test was initiated through the CMC, the auxiliary EICAS display will show an ILS LEFT, ILS RIGHT, or ILS CENTER status message during the first sequence of the test (invalid data).
G. Functional Description - IDS ILS Displays (Fig. 6)
(1) PFD ILS displays
(a) ILS displays on the PFD consist of an alphanumeric readout of the tuned frequency or ground station identifier, a localizer deviation scale and pointer, and a glide slope deviation scale and pointer.

The tuned frequency is displayed in white characters above the upper left corner of the attitude display portion of the PFD. If a valid 4-letter identifier exists, it is displayed instead of the frequency.Localizer deviation is normally displayed by a white, four-dot deviation scale and filled magenta diamond deviation pointer located at the bottom of the attitude display. This display can change as follows: 1) The LOC deviation scale changes from the four dot to the
expanded two mark (where one mark is equal to one half dot) LOC deviation scale when AFCS LOC or ROLLOUT mode is engaged, and the L, R, and/or C autopilot is engaged.
2) The display will revert back to the standard LOC scale when ground speed is less than 30 knots or radio altitude is greater than 200 feet, with neither AFCS mode engaged.
3) The deviation pointer changes from a filled magenta diamond to an unfilled one when the deviation is off scale. 4) The direction of deviation is reversed for a back course
