MAINTENANCE MANUAL
CAUTION:_______ APPLY THE SOLVENT TO THE FAYING SURFACES ONLY. MAKE SURE YOU RUB OFF THE SOLVENT FROM OTHER SURFACES. IF THE SOLVENT STAYS ON A SURFACE FOR A LONG TIME, IT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE FINISH.
(a) (b) (c) Apply BMS 11-7 solvent to the faying surfaces of the airplane structure, and to the antenna, with a clean BMS 15-5 cloth, but use light pressure.Use a clean cloth to clean the faying surfaces.Do these two steps until the metal of the bonding surfaces is bright, clean, and dry.
(3) S 374-087If the airplane surface has corrosion or other damage, do these steps to prepare the airplane surface: (a) Do this task to apply a layer of alodine to the airplane mating surface: Apply Alodine 1000 Solution (AMM 51-21-04/701).
NOTE:____ This task removes corrosion, cleans the surface, and applies the alodine.
(b) Apply two layers of BMS 10-79 Type III primer to the airplane mating surface. 1) Let each layer dry for the correct cure time.
(4) S 394-073Put a layer of the BMS 3-27 in the nutplate and the open area where the antenna cable connects to the antenna.
(5) S 394-074Put a very thin layer of BMS 3-27 on the antenna base.
(6) S 424-009Install the marker beacon antenna: (a) Connect coaxial connector DB36 to the antenna

(b)
Align the antenna to the screw holes in the fuselage
(c)
Put BMS 3-27 on the threads and the shank of each of the cad plated stainless steel screws.
(d)
Lightly tighten the cad plated stainless steel screws to hold the antenna in the correct position.
CAUTION: TIGHTEN THE SCREWS MANUALLY TO THE CORRECT TORQUE VALUE.
_______ USE OF POWER OR AIR TOOLS TO TIGHTEN THE SCREWS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ANTENNA SURFACE.
(e)
Manually tighten the screws to 15-17 pound-inches of torque.
(f)
Clean the excess BMS 3-27 with Aliphatic Naptha TT-N-95.
NOTE: This is important because the aerodynamic sealant, BMS
____ 5-95, will not stick to the BMS 3-27.
(g)
Apply the weather aerodynamic sealant, BMS 5-95, to the outer edge of the antenna (AMM 51-31-01/201).
(h)
Remove the unwanted sealant from around the antenna base (AMM 51-31-01/201).
F. Resistance Measurement
S 764-010
(1) Do a check of the continuity between the antenna and the
airplane skin:
(a)
Connect the bonding meter between the head of each screw and the airplane skin.
(b)
Make sure each measurement of continuity is less than 25 milliohms.
S 394-026
(2)
Apply the weather aerodynamic sealant, BMS 5-95, to the head of each screw (AMM 51-31-01/201).
S 864-020
(3)
Remove the DO-NOT-CLOSE tags and close the circuit breakers:

(4) S 864-012Do this task to supply electrical power: (AMM 24-22-00/201). Manual Control
(5) S 864-021Set up the test set approximately 15 feet from the marker beacon antenna. (a) Turn on the signal generator, and let it warm up.
(6) S 864-013Operate the IDS system to show the marker beacon signal on the primary flight displays: Integrated Display System - A/T (AMM 31-61-00/501).
(7) S 724-014Do a test of the marker beacon antenna: (a) Set the signal generator to a 75 MHz signal with 400 Hz modulation (b) Make sure the indication OM shows on the primary flight displays
