j) Install lockwire between the bolts [21].
CAUTION: DO NOT REMOVE MORE THAN ONE CARTRIDGE FROM THE CARRIAGE AT A
TIME. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(d) If it is necessary, adjust the cartridges [24] on the inboard carriage:
NOTE: Adjust the cartridges [24] one at a time. It is necessary to keep the position of the
cartridges on the inboard carriage the same as the cartridges on the outboard
carriage.
1) Remove the bolts [21] and washers [22] that attach the cartridge [24] to the carriage.
2) Remove the cartridge [24] from the carriage.
3) Loosen the nut [26] on the roller [27].
4) Turn the eccentric bushing [19] until the index marks [23] are in the correct position.
5) Tighten the nut [26] to 160-975 pound-inches (18.1 to 110.2 newton-meters).
6) Install the pin [25] in the nut [26].
7) Put the cartridge [24] in its position in the carriage.
8) Install the bolts [21] and washers [22] to attach the cartridge [24].
9) Tighten the bolts [21] to 95-110 pound-inches (10.7 to 12.4 newton-meters).
10) Install lockwire between the bolts [21].
11) Adjust the other cartridge [24] on the inboard carriage.

(4) Do a check of the adjustment of the aft flap drive rod [17]:
(a) Make sure the trailing edge flaps are in the retracted position.
(b) Install the A/S-8 rig pin0.2500 in (6.35 mm) rig pin, STD-4232 from the kit rig pin kit,
SPL-1585in the rig pin hole [18] in the crankshaft [16].

(5) If you cannot install the rig pin, adjust the length of the aft flap drive rod [17]:
(a) Loosen the nuts [15] on the aft flap drive rod [17].
(b) Turn the aft flap drive rod [17] to change the length until you can install the rig pin in the
crankshaft [16].
(c) Tighten the nuts [15] on the aft flap drive rod [17].
(d) Install lockwire on the nuts [15].

NOTE: If undersize seals [55] are installed on the inboard end of the flap assembly [2], it is not
necessary to meet these seal compression requirements.

(a) With the trailing edge flaps retracted, make sure the seals [55] on the inboard end of the
inboard flap assembly [2] do not contact the wing to body fairing [56].
(b) Extend the trailing edge flaps to the 40-unit position:
1) Do this task: Trailing Edge Flap System Reactivation, TASK 27-51-00-440-801.
2) Extend the trailing edge flaps to the 40-unit position. To extend them, do this task:
Extend the Trailing Edge Flaps, TASK 27-51-00-860-803.
3) Do this task: Trailing Edge Flap System Deactivation, TASK 27-51-00-040-801.
(c) With the trailing edge flaps extended, make sure the seals [55] on the inboard end of the
inboard flap assembly [2] do not contact the wing to body fairing [56].

(8) Do this procedure to adjust the applicable seal [55] (Figure 502):
(a) Loosen the screws [67] that attach the seal [55] and the seal retainer [68] to the inboard flap
assembly [2].
(b) Adjust the position of the seal [55] and the retainer [68] outboard, relative to the airplane.
NOTE: Make sure you move the seal [55] and the seal retainer [68] together as a unit.
(c) Take gap measurements on both inboard flap inboard ends, at these locations:
1) Aft end of the upper forward seal retainer.
2) Forward end of the upper forward seal retainer.
3) Forward end of the lower seal retainer.

(d) Use these measurements to find which side of the airplane has the smallest gaps at the
measured locations from the wing-to-body fairing.
(e) Tighten the screws [67] for the retainer assemblies on the flap with the smallest measured
gaps.
(f) If the measurement between a given left-right pair is not within 0.10 inch (2.54 mm), or the
gaps between the bulb seals and wing-to-body fairing are less than 0.30 inch (7.62 mm),
adjust the seals until the symmetry and gap requirements are met, or until the maximum
adjustment limit is reached.
(g) Tighten the screws [67].
