(1) Set the stabilizer leading edge to the full down (airplane nose up) position.

(5) Remove the cargo liners and floor panels at the locations shown in (Figure 402).

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE CHAIN IS LOOSE BEFORE YOU RELEASE THE CABLE TENSION.
TOO MUCH CABLE TENSION CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE CHAIN.
(6) Adjust the upper adjusting nuts [7] of the aft support link [8] to loosen the chain (Figure 401).

(7) Disconnect the upper turnbuckle [4].

(8) Loosen the lower turnbuckle [3] to release the tension of the STA cable [6] and STB cable [5].

F. Stabilizer Control Cable Removal
SUBTASK 27-41-82-020-004
(1) Remove the cable drum guard [28] and spacers [14] from the aft cable drum [15]:
(a) Remove the bolts [26] and washers [27] from the support plate [25].
(b) Remove the bolts [16] and washers [17] that attach the cable drum guard [28] to the aft
cable drum [15].
(c) Remove the nut [23], washer [22], washer [21], and bolt [20] that attach the cable drum
guard [28] to the support plate [25].
(d) Remove the cable drum guard [28] and spacers [14].

(2) Disconnect the STB cable [5] from the aft cable drum [15]:
(a) Install the wrench, SPL-1684 on the internal spline of the jackscrew gearbox [12]
(Figure 401).
NOTE: Insert the arm of the wrench, SPL-1684, into the motor mount hole to keep the
internal spline of the jackscrew gearbox from turning.
(b) Use the force gauge, COM-1557, on the captain’s or first officer’s stabilizer trim wheel
handle to put a 50 lb (22.7 kg) load on the handle to stretch the STA cable [6].
NOTE: This will keep the STA cable [6] on the drum and will make the removal of the STB
cable [5] easier.
(c) Disconnect the STB cable [5] from the aft cable drum [15].

(3) Remove the STB cable [5] from the cable run.
(a) Remove the arm of the wrench, SPL-1684 from the stabilizer trim motor mount hole.
(b) Using the captain’s or first officer’s stabilizer trim control wheel, move the jackscrew [11] to
