G. Prepare for the Installation
SUBTASK 27-51-21-220-005
(1) If you will install a different flap than the one you removed, do a check of the thickness of the
shims [95] on the inboard carriage [101] and the outboard carriage [96] .
NOTE: There is no mismatch, or alignment dimension to fixed structure that the flap is
adjusted to meet. The flap shims can be changed from the nominal dimension to meet
lateral trim tolerances.
(a) Make sure the thickness of the shims [95] is the same as it was on the previous flap.

(2) If the shims [95] are not the correct thickness, then change the thickness of the shims [95] on the
inboard carriage [101] and the outboard carriage [96].
(a) At the outboard carriage [96], change the thickness of the shims [95]:
1) Remove the nuts [94], washers [93] and bolts [92] that attach the aft link fitting [91] to the
outboard carriage [96].
2) Add or remove shims [95] between the aft link fitting [91] and the outboard carriage [96]
to get the correct shim thickness.
3) Apply sealant, A00247 to the mating surfaces of the shims [95].
