(11) An operational test of the no-back brakes inside the transmissions
(12) A functional test of the trailing edge flap load relief system
TASK 27-51-00-710-801
2. Trailing Edge Flap System Operational Test
(Figure 501)
A. General
(1) During the operational test, you make sure the operation of the trailing edge flaps is satisfactory.
This test does not make sure the flaps are adjusted correctly. You must not use this test as an
alternate for the system test of the trailing edge flaps.

SUBTASK 27-51-00-860-018
(1) Do this task: Supply Electrical Power, TASK 24-22-00-860-811.
SUBTASK 27-51-00-860-019
WARNING: KEEP PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT CLEAR OF THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES, THE
THRUST REVERSERS, AND THE LANDING GEAR. THESE COMPONENTS CAN MOVE
SUDDENLY WHEN YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO
PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(2) Supply system B hydraulic power, do this task: Hydraulic System A or B Pressurization,
TASK 29-11-00-860-801.

E. Operational Test of the Trailing Edge Flap System
SUBTASK 27-51-00-710-001
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LE AND TE
FLAPS AND FLAP DRIVE MECHANISMS. THE FLAPS CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO
PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE INBOARD FAN COWL PANEL AND THE INBOARD AND
OUTBOARD THRUST REVERSERS ARE CLOSED AND IN THE STOWED POSITION OR
REMOVED BEFORE YOU EXTEND THE LEADING EDGE FLAPS AND SLATS. THERE IS
NOT SUFFICIENT CLEARANCE FOR THE FLAPS AND SLATS TO EXTEND IF THE
INBOARD FAN COWL PANEL AND THE INBOARD AND OUTBOARD THRUST
REVERSERS ARE IN THE OPEN POSITION. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO
EQUIPMENT.
(1) Do a test of the hydraulic operation of the flaps:
NOTE: Use the flap position indicator to find the position of the flaps.
(a) Move the flap control lever to the UP position and wait for the flaps to reach the UP position.
(b) Make sure the pointers on the flap position indicator are in the UP white band.
(c) Move the flap control lever to the 10-unit position and wait for the flaps to stop.
(d) Make sure the pointers on the flap position indicator are in the 10-unit white band.
(e) Move the flap control lever to the 40-unit position and wait for the flaps to stop.
(f) Make sure the pointers on the flap position indicator are in the 40-unit white band.
(g) Move the flap control lever to the UP position and wait for the flaps to reach the UP position.
(h) Make sure the pointers on the flap position indicator are in the UP white band.
SUBTASK 27-51-00-710-002
(2) Do a test of the alternate operation of the flaps:
(a) Move the ALTERNATE FLAPS ARM switch to the ARM position.
NOTE: The standby hydraulic pump motor will operate when the ALTERNATE FLAPS
ARM switch is in the ARM position.
(b) Move the flap control lever to the 40-unit position.
NOTE: This will reduce the load on the flap electric motor.
1) Make sure the flaps do not move.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE INBOARD FAN COWL PANEL AND THE INBOARD AND
OUTBOARD THRUST REVERSERS ARE CLOSED AND IN THE STOWED POSITION
OR REMOVED BEFORE YOU EXTEND THE LEADING EDGE FLAPS AND SLATS.
THERE IS NOT SUFFICIENT CLEARANCE FOR THE FLAPS AND SLATS TO
EXTEND IF THE INBOARD FAN COWL PANEL AND THE INBOARD AND
OUTBOARD THRUST REVERSERS ARE IN THE OPEN POSITION. THIS CAN
CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

(CAUTION PRECEDES)
CAUTION: WAIT A MINIMUM OF 15 SECONDS AFTER THE FLAPS STOP BEFORE YOU USE
THE ALTERNATE SYSTEM TO MOVE THE FLAPS AGAIN. YOU CAN CAUSE
DAMAGE TO THE FLAP ALTERNATE MOTOR.
(c) Move the ALTERNATE FLAPS CONTROL switch to the DOWN position and hold it until the
trailing edge flaps stop.
NOTE: The flap extension is controlled by a limit switch.
(d) Make sure the pointers on the flap position indicator are in the 40-unit white band.
(e) Move the ALTERNATE FLAPS CONTROL switch to the UP position.
