put the stabilizer leading edge to the full up (airplane nose down) position.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT DAMAGE OR KINK THE CABLE WHILE WINDING IT
ONTO THE SPOOL OR REEL. DAMAGE TO THE CABLE MAY OCCUR.
CAUTION: IF THE CABLE IS GOING TO BE USED AGAIN, DO NOT LET IT TOUCH THE DIRTY
SURFACES. DIRT IN THE GREASE ON THE CABLES CAN CAUSE PREMATURE
FAILURE OF THE CABLE OR MAY CAUSE PROBLEMS WHEN RE-RIGGING THE
CABLE.
(c) When the stabilizer starts to move, pull the STB cable [5] into the tail compartment and
wind it on a spool or a reel.
NOTE: Tension must always be kept on the STB cable [5] while pulling it into the tail
compartment. The best way to keep steady tension on the STB cable [5] is to have
a mechanic pulling the cable into the tail compartment while another winds it onto
a spool or reel.
NOTE: To ensure the STB cable [5] is not damaged or kinked as it is unwound from the
forward drum, it is best to have a mechanic in the forward compartment to watch
the cable as it unwinds from the forward drum. This will ensure that the mechanic
operating the stabilizer trim control wheel does not turn the forward drum too far
and kink the cable on the right cable guard spacer (Figure 401).

(d) When the ballnut [28] touches the upper stop, keep a record of the number of turns of the
STA cable [6] on the cable drum [15].
(e) Disconnect the cable STA [6] from the aft cable drum [15].
NOTE: Use a control cable clamp, SPL-1569 to keep tension on the cable STA [6] to keep
it from unwinding on the forward cable drum.
(f) Disconnect the cable STB [5] from the forward cable drum.
1) Remove the nut and washer from the clevis bolt.
2) Remove the clevis bolt from the STB cable [5] eyelet.

(4) Remove the STB cable [5] from the aircraft.
(a) Attach lockstitch or some similar material to the aft end of the STB cable [5].
FAILURE OF THE CABLE OR MAY CAUSE PROBLEMS WHEN RE-RIGGING THE
CABLE.
(b) Using a spool or reel, wind the STB cable [5] up in the forward mechanism compartment.
NOTE: As the aft end of the cable moves past the idler pulleys, the idler pulleys must be
removed to allow the swaged end of the cable to move forward (Figure 402).

(5) Do the following steps to remove the cable STA [6] from the aircraft:
(a) Remove the cable clamp from the STA cable [6] at the aft cabin pressure bulkhead while
maintaining force on the STA cable [6].
(b) Using the captain’s or first officer’s stabilizer trim control wheel, unwind the STA cable [6]
from the forward drum.
FAILURE OF THE CABLE OR MAY CAUSE PROBLEMS WHEN RE-RIGGING THE
CABLE.
(c) Pull the STA cable [6] into the tail compartment and wind it on a spool or a reel.
NOTE: Tension must always be kept on the STA cable [6] while pulling it into the tail
compartment. The best way to keep steady tension on the STA cable [6] is to have
a mechanic pulling the cable into the tail compartment while another mechanic
winds the cable onto a spool or reel.
NOTE: To ensure the STA cable [6] is not damaged or kinked as it is unwound from the
forward drum, it is recommended to have a mechanic in the forward compartment
to watch the cable as it slowly unwinds from the forward drum. This will ensure
that the mechanic pulling the cable into the aft unpressurized compartment does
not pull the cable too far and kink the cable on the left cable guard spacer
(Figure 401).
