(1) Use the tool wrench, SPL-1684 to set the stabilizer leading edge to the full down (airplane nose
up) position.
SUBTASK 27-41-82-100-001
(2) Use a clean cloth to wipe the grease and dirt from the forward and the aft cable drums.

(3) Install the STA [6] and STB [5] cables in the cable runs.
(a) Place the new, or old, cables in the forward mechanism compartment.
(b) Attach the lockstitch to the aft end of the STA [6] and STB [5] cables.
(c) Pulling the lockstitch in the aft unpressurized compartment, guide the stabilizer control
cables through the cable runs of the airplane.
NOTE: As the aft end of the cable moves past the idler pulleys, the idler pulleys must be
removed to allow the swaged end of the cable to move aft.
SUBTASK 27-41-82-420-002
(4) Wind the STA [6] and STB [5] cables onto a spool or reel in the aft unpressurized compartment.
SUBTASK 27-41-82-420-003
(5) Install the idler pulleys in the idler pulley brackets in the locations shown in (Figure 402).
F. Stabilizer Control Cable Installation
(Figure 401, Figure 402)
SUBTASK 27-41-82-420-004
(1) Connect the STA cable [6] to the bottom slot of the forward cable drum (Figure 401):
(a) Using the captain’s or first officer’s stabilizer control wheel, rotate the forward drum so that
the lower cable connection point is on the left side of the airplane.
1) Install the eyelet bolt through the STA cable [6] eyelet, the washers on the eyelet bolt,
the castle nut on the eyelet bolt, and a new cotter pin [18] through the eyelet bolt
(Figure 401).
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE CABLE WINDS ONTO THE DRUM GROOVES PROPERLY WITH
EACH ROTATION OF THE DRUM. IF THE CABLE GETS JAMMED BETWEEN THE
CABLE AND THE CABLE DRUM GUARD, DAMAGE TO THE CABLE WILL OCCUR.
(b) Use the captain’s or first officer’s stabilizer trim control wheel to wind the STA [6] cable
onto the forward cable drum approximately 31.5 turns.
NOTE: Tension must always be kept on the STA cable [6] while winding it onto the
forward cable drum. The best way to keep steady tension on the STA cable [6] is
to have a mechanic applying tension to the cable in the aft unpressurized
compartment while another mechanic keeps the cable in position in the forward
mechanism compartment.
NOTE: To ensure the STA cable [6] is not damaged or kinked as it is wound onto the
forward drum, it is recommended to have a mechanic in the forward mechanism
compartment to watch the cable as it slowly winds onto the forward cable drum.
This will ensure that the mechanic that is turning the stabilizer trim control wheel,
does not turn the forward drum too much and damage or kink the cable.
SUBTASK 27-41-82-420-005
(2) Connect the STB cable [5] to the top slot of the forward cable drum (Figure 401):
(a) While keeping tension on the STA [6] cable, use the captain’s or first officer’s stabilizer
control wheel to rotate the forward drum so that the upper cable connection point is on the
right side of the airplane.
1) Install the STB cable [5] eyelet in the location on the upper right side of the forward
cable drum.
