see if there is preload when it engages the deflection control track [3].

track [3], then adjust the deflection control roller [12]:

1) Manually extend the inboard flap [1] to get access to the deflection control roller [12].
To extend it, do this task: Trailing Edge Flap System Manual Operation,
TASK 27-51-00-980-801.
2) Remove the bolt [6] and washer [5] that hold the retainer [4] and retainer [13] to the
deflection control rib [14]
3) Remove the retainer [13] for the inboard eccentric bushing [10].
4) Remove the pin [7] and loosen the nut [8] on the bolt [11].
5) Turn the inboard eccentric bushing [10] to change the position of the inboard deflection
control roller [12].
NOTE: Make sure you do not change the position of the outboard deflection control
roller [9].
6) Install the retainer [13] for the inboard eccentric bushing [10].
7) Install the bolt [6] and washer [5] that hold the retainer [1] and retainer [13].
8) Tighten the nut [8] finger tight and install the pin [7].
NOTE: If it is necessary, tighten the nut [8] the minimum amount necessary to install
the pin [7].

(2) Retract the trailing edge flaps to the retracted position. To retract them, do this task: Retract the
Trailing Edge Flaps, TASK 27-51-00-860-804.

(3) Make sure carriage roller cartridges are in the correct position (Figure 501):
NOTE: It is necessary to keep the position of the cartridges on the inboard carriage the same
as the cartridges on the outboard carriage.
(a) If you installed a different flap, then adjust the carriage roller cartridges to the same
position as the original flap.
NOTE: The position of the original flap may have been adjusted for lateral trim per
(TASK 27-09-71-820-801).
(b) If you do not know the original position of the carriage roller cartridges, then adjust them
make sure they are in the nominal position.
NOTE: The nominal position for the carriage roller cartridges is -45 degrees for the left
wing, and +30 for the right wing.
CAUTION: DO NOT REMOVE MORE THAN ONE CARTRIDGE FROM THE CARRIAGE AT A
TIME. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(c) If it is necessary, adjust the cartridge [22] and cartridge [31] on the outboard carriage:
NOTE: It is necessary to keep the position of the cartridges on the inboard carriage the
same as the cartridges on the outboard carriage.
1) Adjust the outboard cartridge [31]:
a) Remove the bolts [28], washers [39] and the rub block [38] from the retainer [29].
b) Remove the bolts [36] and washers [37] that attach the cartridge [31] to the
carriage.
c) Remove the cartridge [31] from the carriage.
d) Loosen the nut [33] on the roller [32].

e) Turn the eccentric bushing [30] until the index marks [35] are in the correct position.
f) Tighten the nut [33] on the roller [32] to 160-975 pound-inches (18.1 to 110.2 newtonmeters).
g) Install the pin [34] in the nut [33].
h) Put the cartridge [31] in its position in the carriage.
i) Install the bolts [36] and washers [37] to attach the cartridge [31].
j) Tighten the bolts [36] to 95-110 pound-inches (10.7 to 12.4 newton-meters).
k) Install lockwire between the bolts [36] and the retainer [29].
l) Put the rub block [38] in its position on the retainer [29] and install the bolts [28] and
washers [39].
2) Adjust the inboard cartridge [24]:
a) Remove the bolts [21] and washers [22] that attach the cartridge [24] to the
carriage.
b) Remove the cartridge [24] from the carriage.
c) Loosen the nut [26] on the roller [27].
d) Turn the eccentric bushing [19] until the index marks [23] are in the correct position.
e) Tighten the nut [26] on the roller [27] to 160-975 pound-inches (18.1 to 110.2 newtonmeters).
f) Install the pin [25] in the nut [26].
g) Put the cartridge [24] in its position in the carriage.
h) Install the bolts [21] and washers [22] to attach the cartridge [24].
i) Tighten the bolts [21] to 95-110 pound-inches (10.7 to 12.4 newton-meters).
