SUBTASK 27-51-00-040-004
(1) Do this task: Trailing Edge Flap System Deactivation, TASK 27-51-00-040-801.
SUBTASK 27-51-00-480-015
WARNING: MAKE SURE THE DOWNLOCK PINS ARE INSTALLED ON ALL THE LANDING GEAR.
WITHOUT THE DOWNLOCK PINS, THE LANDING GEAR CAN RETRACT AND CAUSE
INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(2) If the downlock pins are not installed in the nose and main landing gear, do this task: Landing
Gear Downlock Pins Installation, TASK 32-00-01-480-801.
SUBTASK 27-51-00-980-003
(3) Manually extend the flaps until the ballscrew nuts touch the downstops on the ballscrews:
(a) If the torque tubes are not connected to the flap power drive unit, manually extend the flaps
on each wing:
1) If all of the torque tubes on the wing are connected, use an adapter, SPL-1679 on the
torque tube couplings inboard of the tee-angle gearbox.
CAUTION: DO NOT MOVE ONE END OF A FLAP MORE THAN 1.4 INCHES (35.5
MILLIMETERS) OF BALLSCREW TRAVEL MORE THAN THE OTHER END.
YOU CAN CAUSE THE FLAP TO SKEW EXCESSIVELY. THIS CAN CAUSE
DAMAGE TO THE FLAP.
2) If all of the torque tubes on the wing are not connected, use an adapter, SPL-1679 to
drive each flap independently.
(b) If the torque tubes are connected to the flap power drive unit, and all of the torque tubes are
connected on each wing, use the manual drive to extend the flaps. To use the manual drive,
do this task: Trailing Edge Flap System Manual Operation, TASK 27-51-00-980-801.
SUBTASK 27-51-00-220-001
(4) Do a check of the adjustment of the flap drive system on each wing:
NOTE: If all of the torque tubes on the wing are not connected, it is not necessary to do this
check.

(a) At all of the transmissions, measure and record the dimension from the downstop on the
ballscrew nut to the downstop on the ballscrew.
NOTE: This dimension is referred to as Dimension Y.
(b) Make sure the Dimension Y for the transmission No. 4 and transmission No. 5 are in these
limits:
1) If the torque tubes are connected between the wings, Dimension Y must be 0.0 (the
ballscrew nut touches the downstop) for one transmission and in the limit of 0.0 to 0.1
inch (0.0 to 2.5 millimeters) for the other transmission.
2) If the torque tubes are not connected between the wings, Dimension Y must be 0.0 (the
ballscrew nut touches the downstop) for the two transmission.
(c) On the left wing flap drive system:
1) Make sure Dimension Y for transmissions No. 1 and No. 3 are in the limit of 0.0 to 0.2
inch (0.0 to 5.1 millimeters) more than Dimension Y at transmission No. 4.
2) Make sure Dimension Y for transmission No. 2 is in the limit of 0.0 to 0.22 inch (0.0 to 5.6
millimeters) more than Dimension Y at transmission No. 1.
(d) On the right wing flap drive system:
1) Make sure Dimension Y for transmissions No. 6 and No. 8 are in the limit of 0.0 to 0.2
inch (0.0 to 5.1 millimeters) more than Dimension Y at transmission No. 5.
2) Make sure Dimension Y for transmission No. 7 is in the limit of 0.0 to 0.22 inch (0.0 to 5.6
millimeters) more than Dimension Y at transmission No. 8.
SUBTASK 27-51-00-820-009
(5) If the flap drive system is not adjusted correctly on each wing, do the trailing edge flap drive
system adjustment.
G. Trailing Edge Flap Drive System Adjustment
SUBTASK 27-51-00-020-003
(1) For the flap position transmitters on the left and right wings, do this task: Flap Position
Transmitter Removal, TASK 27-58-01-000-801.
NOTE: If you do not remove the flap position transmitters before you disconnect the torque
tubes, they will become incorrectly adjusted.
SUBTASK 27-51-00-020-004
(2) Disconnect the torque tubes [18] from the flap power drive unit [17] (Figure 502):
NOTE: This will disconnect the flap drive system for the left wing from the right wing. It is
necessary to adjust the left and the right wings independently, then connect them
together.
(a) Remove the screws [14] that attach the coupling sleeves [15] to the splined couplings [16].
(b) Move the coupling sleeves [15] off the splined couplings [16].
(c) Move the torque tubes [18] away from the flap power drive unit [17].
SUBTASK 27-51-00-020-005
(3) Disconnect the torque tube from the inboard side of transmission No. 2 or transmission No. 7
(Figure 503):
NOTE: This will disconnect the flap drive system for the outboard flaps from the inboard flaps.
(a) Remove the screws [14] that attach the coupling sleeves [15] to the splined couplings [16].
(b) Move the coupling sleeves [15] off the splined couplings [16].
