(1) Use the microbial growth test results to find out which fuel tank may have microbial growth contamination.

Defuel the applicable fuel tank (AMM 28-26-00/201).

Do a check of these areas for microbial growth: NOTE: The material usually has a brown color or a black color.

The bottom of the tank

The top surfaces of the tubing
(c)
The limber holes and the drain tubes for blockage.
S 167-180 CAUTION: SCHEDULE THE TASK TO REMOVE THE MICROBES AND FUNGUS FROM THE
_______ TANKS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THE MICROBES AND FUNGUS CAN CAUSE CORROSION TO THE FUEL TANK STRUCTURE AND COMPONENTS.
(5) If you find microbial growth, schedule a task to remove the contamination.
NOTE: Schedule the cleaning procedure as soon as possible.

4. Apply the Biocide to the Fuel Tanks___________________________________
A. General
(1)
Use a biocide as part of your standard preventive maintenance methods for microbial contamination (CPM 20-62-00, Part I). A biocide additive will stop future microbial growth. If you find microbial contamination, you must first mechanically remove the contamination from the tank, and then use a biocide additive to prevent future growth.
